What to eat to purify the body during Tet?

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên15/01/2025

Tet is the time for family members to gather and enjoy many delicious dishes. Consuming a lot of nutritious, protein-rich foods can put a burden on the liver.

Specialist Doctor 2 Huynh Tan Vu (working at the Day Treatment Unit of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Facility 3) advises: During days when meat is abundant, adding fruits and berries such as grapefruit, oranges, lemons, avocados, blueberries, bananas, grapes, etc. not only helps prevent satiety but also provides vitamins, fiber, minerals, which help reduce blood fat and protect liver cells.

Fruits that help purify the body

Grapefruit, orange, lemon : Vitamin C and antioxidants in grapefruit help remove toxins from the body to improve liver health. "Hesperetin, a citrus flavonoid, is mainly found in citrus fruits (oranges, grapefruits and lemons) and possesses many pharmacological properties. Hesperetin has been shown to be an effective dietary supplement to improve non-alcoholic fatty liver disease by inhibiting oxidative stress and inflammation in the liver," said Dr. Vu.

Oranges and lemons contain a lot of potassium, bioflavonoids, vitamin C, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, magnesium, antioxidants, etc., which help detoxify and reduce hepatitis in people with fatty liver. Patients can drink 2-3 oranges or lemons a day to improve liver health. However, people with digestive and stomach problems should consult a doctor.

Fruits that help purify the body

Avocado : This fruit is recommended for people with fatty liver disease because it is rich in HDL cholesterol, which helps reduce blood lipids and prevent liver damage. Avocados are also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which slow the progression of fatty liver and repair liver damage.

Patients should consume about 1/2 to 1 avocado per day to control bad cholesterol levels - one of the causes of fatty liver, atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease.

Blueberries : This fruit contains polyphenols, anthocyanins and flavonoids that help fight oxidation and inflammation. Polyphenols in blueberries have been shown to prevent fatty liver by accelerating fat breakdown and reducing triglyceride accumulation in liver cells.

Blueberry juice supplementation has been found to be effective in preventing cirrhosis.

Bananas : Rich in vitamins B6, C, A and resistant starch, bananas are great for liver health. Resistant starch from green bananas improves metabolic parameters by regulating the expression of key proteins involved in lipid metabolism in the liver.

Grapes : Red grapes contain resveratrol, a powerful antioxidant that helps detoxify the liver, enhance liver function, keep cells healthy, and improve liver health as well as overall health. Grapes contain vitamin C and magnesium, both of which are excellent antioxidants that significantly reduce the manifestation of hepatitis and protect the body against infections.

Apple : A familiar fruit with a delicious taste, apples provide many essential nutrients for the body, including vitamin C, fiber, carbohydrates, potassium, magnesium..., helping to improve liver health very effectively.

Papaya : A rich source of fiber, minerals and powerful antioxidants including vitamins A, C and E. Compounds found in papaya fruit and seeds have the ability to promote fat absorption, while helping to eliminate toxins and excess cholesterol from the body.

"With the above fruits, you can eat them directly or drink them in the form of juice or smoothies. Drinking enough water is a simple and effective way to remove toxins from the body. Water helps increase blood circulation and speeds up the process of eliminating toxins from the body through urine, breath, and sweat," Dr. Huynh Tan Vu advised.
