Jannik Sinner caused a surprise when he had to withdraw from the final match of the Cincinnati Open 2025 on the morning of August 19 against Carlos Alcaraz after only the first 5 games due to health problems. Carlos Alcaraz won the tournament in the US after only 23 minutes of play.
After winning the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in the US, Carlos Alcaraz confirmed that he will participate in the mixed doubles event at the 2025 US Open, playing with British player Emma Raducanu. The Spanish star said he will enjoy the experience with Raducanu and see it as an opportunity to mentally prepare for the men's singles matches.

Alcaraz shared after winning the 2025 Cincinnati Open: "My schedule is quite tight but I really love the idea of playing doubles at the US Open. It will be a new and exciting experience to play with Emma Raducanu. We will try to enjoy every minute on the court and consider this as a good way to prepare for the next matches."
The 2025 US Open in the US will start on August 24, but the mixed doubles matches with 16 pairs of athletes will compete on August 20 and 21. This format will take place over 2 days, the winning pair will receive 1 million USD, a prize far exceeding Wimbledon and Roland Garros.
To avoid overloading the players, the mixed doubles matches at the 2025 US Open have been shortened to three sets of four games each, with no advantage, and a tie-break at 4-4. The final will be played in three sets of six games, still without advantage, with a tie-break at 6-6.
The Alcaraz - Raducanu pair will face Jack Draper - Jessica Pegula at 1am on August 20. If they win, Raducanu - Alcaraz will advance to the quarterfinals, and play the winning pair from the match between Novak Djokovic - Olga Danilovic and Mirra Andreeva - Daniil Medvedev on the same day.
