“My family has 4 sisters, 3 of whom studied and graduated from Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade. The 4th person in the family also studied at this school, my husband,” Phuong Thao said.
The first person in Phuong Thao's family to study at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade was Pham Thi Phuong Thanh, born in 1986. Phuong Thanh studied Information Technology - Ho Chi Minh City College of Food Industry - the name of the school before 2010.
Ms. Thanh said that the most memorable and interesting memories were the computer practice sessions in class. At that time, her family did not have the means to buy a computer for studying, so she was very interested and spent a lot of time on computer practice subjects at school. Her time as a student was a profound impression in Ms. Thanh's youth. Ms. Phuong Thanh currently lives in Gia Lai, has a bookstore and sells Central Highlands specialties that she grows herself.

The second person to study at this school is Pham Thi Phuong Thao, majoring in Business Administration, 2014-2018. In 2010, Ho Chi Minh City College of Food Industry was upgraded to Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry according to Decision No. 284/QD-TTg. During her time at the school, Phuong Thao was Deputy Secretary of the Faculty of Business Administration, participating in union activities. She is also an active member of the school's communications and admissions support committee.
“More than 20 years ago, I followed my older sister Phuong Thanh to school to receive documents. For an 8-9 year old girl coming to the city for the first time, seeing the high-rise school, and occasionally seeing planes flying overhead, that feeling was hard to describe. 10 years later, I officially became a student at this school,” Thao said.
After 8 years of graduating, Thao has experienced many jobs such as Sales, Marketing... Currently, she has switched to laundry business with the goal of opening a chain of laundry stores in Ho Chi Minh City.
Following her two older sisters, younger sister Pham Thi Quynh Nhu has just graduated from the Business Administration major at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade (official name from 2023 according to Decision No. 789/QD-TTg). Currently, Quynh Nhu is working as an intern at a bank.

Not only do the three sisters study at the same university, Phuong Thao's husband, Nguyen Le Trung, is also a former student of this university. Phuong Thao met Le Trung when participating in union activities at the school. The two are the same age, Trung is a student of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. He is currently a co-founder of a company.
Regarding the reason why all three sisters study at the same school, Phuong Thao said that it is because the school has a long history, has a favorite training major, and the tuition is not too high. Phuong Thao herself, looking at the experience of her older sister Phuong Thanh, trusted her and wanted to study at the same school as her. On the other hand, according to her, the school is also near a main road, so it is convenient to travel.
As for Quynh Nhu's younger sister, Thao was the one who influenced Nhu to study at this school. "When studying here, I felt very secure, so I advised and guided Nhu. The school's facilities are increasingly spacious, the training quality is innovative, the union and association activities are healthy and useful, creating favorable conditions for Nhu's personal development and career orientation. Moreover, there are 2 older sisters who studied here, so my parents also want Nhu to study and live with them so that they can take care of each other," Thao said.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade was established in 1982 and has undergone many name changes and upgrades. Initially, it was the School of Food Industry Economics Technical Staff (1982); then it was renamed the Food Industry High School (1986); Ho Chi Minh City College of Food Industry (2001); Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry (2010); and has kept the name Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade since 2023.
