Vu Quang Town was established under Decree No. 112/2003/ND-CP dated October 3, 2003 of the Government on the basis of the administrative boundaries of Huong Dai Commune (old) and the merger of Son Linh Village (Duc Bong Commune), Hop Hoa Village and 14 households of Village 11 (Huong Minh Commune) with a total natural area of ​​3,742 hectares. Up to now, the Town Party Committee consists of 11 Party cells with 257 Party members. The Town has 6 residential groups with over 1,100 households/4,260 people; more than 40 agencies, enterprises, and schools of the district located in the area...

After 20 years of establishment, the production value of economic sectors of Vu Quang town increased 6.4 times; average income per capita reached 49 million VND/year, an increase of 29 times; total budget revenue increased 25 times... The economic structure shifted towards increasing the proportion of industry, trade, and services, reducing the proportion of agriculture, forestry, and fishery.

The position and stature of Vu Quang town were raised when large projects were built such as the Ngan Truoi irrigation system, hydroelectric plant, roads, and welfare projects... The total social investment capital of the town to date has reached more than 1,500 billion VND.
