Speaking at the meeting, WWF Vietnam General Director Van Ngoc Thinh said that in terms of future cooperation orientation, WWF Vietnam proposed that Dak Lak province pay attention to building and signing a cooperation agreement in conservation work for the period 2026-2030. Focusing on the following areas: biodiversity conservation, sustainable agriculture and food program and ocean and plastic program.

Specifically, in the field of biodiversity conservation, WWF committed to supporting the National Elephant Conservation Action Plan (VECAP) in Vietnam, with a budget of nearly 600,000 USD specifically for Dak Lak province.
The two sides also discussed the possibility of establishing a transboundary nature reserve between Dak Lak (Vietnam) and Mondulkiri (Cambodia); the annual cooperation plan between Dak Lak and Mondulkiri provinces in the coming time; and the possibility of integrating cooperation contents in forest protection and management, elephant conservation, biodiversity conservation, and management of illegal wildlife trade across the border into the annual cooperation program between the two provinces.
Regarding the Sustainable Agriculture and Food Program, the two sides will promote sustainable coffee and pepper production and emission-reducing rice farming models. Link with private enterprises to introduce access to climate finance from the Netherlands Climate and Development Fund (DFCD), AFD, sustainable irrigation/hydrology solutions linked to investment through the Climate Management Fund (CFM); support aquaculture enterprises to deploy sustainable aquaculture.
Regarding the Ocean and Plastics Program, the two sides piloted green public procurement (reducing plastic) and a model for regulating fishermen and aquaculture farmers to bring waste ashore. WWF has supported the elimination of plastic waste hotspots in the areas of Hon Yen, Vung Ro, Song Cau, and the establishment of green collection points in An My, Vung Ro, Xuan Hai, Xuan Phuong, and Xuan Dai.
Within the framework of the project "Reducing ocean plastic waste" on piloting regulations for fishermen and aquaculture farmers to bring waste back to shore, WWF hopes to coordinate with the province and the Department of Fisheries - Fisheries Control to pilot this model in the form of regulations for fishermen to bring their household plastic waste, waste from aquaculture activities and broken fishing gear back to shore, with the support of businesses within the framework of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).
At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Thien Van - Vice Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee highly appreciated the role of WWF in Vietnam in the support programs for the province, which have had a positive impact on wildlife conservation and forest management and protection.
Mr. Nguyen Thien Van said that the cooperation orientation proposed by WWF in Vietnam for the province in the field of Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Management of Natural Resources is currently a priority area of cooperation for Dak Lak province to serve agricultural development and sustainable socio -economic development.
Since 2018, WWF has funded and coordinated the implementation of 3 projects in Dak Lak with a total aid value of 247,075 USD. These projects include: Project to prevent illegal hunting and trafficking of wildlife (October 2018 - December 2028), with an aid value of 37,500 USD, to raise public awareness. Project to conserve wild elephant populations (November 2018 - September 2021), worth 94,079 USD, has helped build a database on elephants, reduce human-elephant conflicts and improve elephant care capacity. The "Plastic-Free Cities" program (December 2020 - June 2025), with a budget of 115,496 USD, has carried out many activities such as training, communication and piloting plastic waste collection models. In addition, WWF also cooperated with Yok Don National Park to carry out 3 other projects on tiger and elephant research and conservation; participated in a project funded by USAID, with a budget of 10.5 million USD, to protect endangered wildlife in 11 localities, including Dak Lak. |
