On November 6, at the United Nations headquarters in New York (USA), the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly discussed the topic "Reforming the activities of the United Nations General Assembly".
At the meeting, all countries affirmed their respect for the central role of the UN General Assembly in policy making and promoting major agendas as the highest representative body of the United Nations. Delegates also shared their views on directions and ways to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the General Assembly's operations as the United Nations prepares to celebrate its 80th anniversary.

Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Nguyen Hoang Nguyen, Deputy Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, emphasized that reforming the activities of the United Nations General Assembly is extremely important to the efforts to enhance the effectiveness of the United Nations' overall operations and enhance the organization's ability to respond to increasing global challenges. At the same time, measures to reform the General Assembly must be consistent with the United Nations Charter, international law, as well as efforts to promote multilateralism, solidarity and international cooperation, avoiding politicization and confrontation.

In that spirit, the Vietnamese representative affirmed his support for enhancing the role of the United Nations General Assembly in maintaining international peace and security, and strengthening relations between the General Assembly and other key bodies of the United Nations, including the Security Council. In addition, Vietnam supports reforming the United Nations General Assembly in the direction of ensuring the principles of transparency and inclusiveness, including the selection and appointment of the United Nations Secretary-General, co-chairs and co-coordinators of the General Assembly processes, taking into account gender and geographical balance. Vietnam commits to actively contributing to the activities of the Special Working Group on Reform of the United Nations General Assembly during its 79th session.
