On the afternoon of November 1, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong received Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed that Vietnam always remembers and appreciates the sentiments and valuable assistance that the Government and people of Mongolia have given Vietnam during the past struggle for independence and national reunification and the current cause of national construction and development.

Vietnam always wishes to promote bilateral cooperation with Mongolia, a traditional friend, to develop more substantially, in accordance with the interests, potentials and needs of the two countries.

The General Secretary introduced to the Mongolian President Vietnam's great and comprehensive achievements after 35 years of Doi Moi, the country's development goals set out at the 13th Congress, as well as the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, multilateralization and diversification.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong welcomed the results of the talks between President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh and President Vo Van Thuong; and discussed with Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh a number of major directions and measures to bring the bilateral relationship to a new height in the new period.

Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh congratulated the great and historic achievements that the Party, State and people of Vietnam have achieved in nearly 40 years of Renovation and socialist construction, in which, in recent years, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, headed by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

The President expressed his appreciation for the traditional relations between the two countries, especially the historic event of President Ho Chi Minh's visit to Mongolia. Mongolia always treasures the good traditional friendship between the two countries and considers Vietnam a leading partner in Southeast Asia.

The President said he wished to continue promoting relations between the Mongolian People's Party and the Communist Party of Vietnam, contributing to firmly consolidating the political foundation for bilateral relations.

He also highly agreed with the opinions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on major measures to promote the two countries' relationship to a new level.

Vietnam - Mongolia relations will continue to be strengthened and developed.

President Vo Van Thuong expressed his delight at the development of the traditional friendly cooperation between the two countries, with many new achievements in recent times, especially in politics, defense, security and economy. In order to develop the bilateral relationship more deeply, practically and effectively in the coming time, the President said that he had agreed with the President of Mongolia on major orientations.

The two sides agreed to maintain and increase contacts at all levels, effectively implement cooperation mechanisms, thereby strengthening political trust and deepening the friendly relations between the two countries.

The two sides agreed to carry out activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2024. The two leaders welcomed the achievements in defense and security cooperation; agreed to substantive cooperation in justice, defense industry, and security through specific projects, including combating drug and transnational crimes, and exchanging defense and security students.

The Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Justice and Interior of Mongolia signed a Memorandum of Understanding on information exchange and cooperation in immigration management.

The two sides agreed to promote the goal of doubling bilateral trade turnover to 200 million USD in the coming years, promote import and export of goods, open the door to each other's goods, strengthen investment promotion, study the possibility of cooperation in the field of strategic minerals. Strengthen cooperation between localities of the two countries, establish new pairs of local cooperation relationships.

The two countries will enhance people-to-people exchanges and promote culture and history. The two leaders welcomed the signing of the Visa Exemption Agreement and agreed to continue to create favorable conditions and protect the legitimate rights of citizens of the two countries to live, study and work in the other country.

The President thanked President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh for inviting him to visit Mongolia and he happily accepted the invitation.

The two sides also studied the ability to supply and receive labor in the industries that both sides need.

President Vo Van Thuong believes that in the coming time, the Vietnam - Mongolia relationship will continue to be consolidated and developed, towards establishing a new framework of relations.

The President of Mongolia expressed his honor to visit Vietnam, the land of the golden dragon and the beautiful thousand-year-old cultural site of Thang Long-Hanoi, on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

"Our two countries have a long history of diplomatic relations, dating back at least 700 years. Vietnam is the first country in Southeast Asia with which Mongolia has diplomatic relations. In 1954, Mongolia and Vietnam officially established diplomatic relations and have been continuously expanded in the spirit of friendly cooperation," President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh shared.

Overcoming all challenges, the relationship between the two countries has been constantly strengthened and developed. During the war, the Mongolian people and government launched a movement to protest the war and support Vietnam, which spread widely throughout Mongolia.

The President thanked President Vo Van Thuong and the Vietnamese people for their warm, friendly and thoughtful reception.

The President affirmed: "Today, inheriting and promoting the legacy of friendly cooperation and the fine brotherly tradition between the two countries is our honor, pride and responsibility to continue writing the golden pages of the future history of the 70-year journey."

He believes that the visit will contribute to creating important momentum , determining directions and measures to promote the traditional friendship between the two countries.
