ECOSOC has unanimously elected Vietnam to the Executive Board of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) for the 2025-2027 term.

On April 9, 2024, the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) unanimously elected Vietnam to the Executive Board of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) for the 2025-2027 term.

Accordingly, from January 2025 to the end of 2027, Vietnam will participate in coordinating the development and implementation of major orientations of UN Women, ensuring that the agency's strategies and activities are consistent with the United Nations' overall goals and policies on promoting gender equality and empowering women. As a member of the Executive Council, Vietnam will also participate in the process of approving plans, work programs as well as administrative, financial and budgetary decisions of UN Women.

The fact that all ECOSOC members unanimously elected Vietnam to the UN Women Executive Council demonstrates the international community's recognition and appreciation of Vietnam's policies and achievements in promoting gender equality and international cooperation efforts in this field, and their belief that Vietnam will actively contribute to the management of UN Women in the coming time.

UN Women was established in July 2010 under Resolution 64/289 of the United Nations General Assembly, as part of the UN reform program to accelerate the UN's goals of gender equality and women's empowerment, to fight discrimination and stigma against women and girls, and to ensure equality between women and men in the fields of development, human rights, and humanitarian, peace and security activities.
