(Dan Tri) - Before adding 2 more days off for the 2025 Lunar New Year, according to the original plan, Ho Chi Minh City arranged for students to have a full week off for Tet, plus weekends for a total of 9 days.
At the recent training conference for secondary and high school principals on strengthening the organization and management of the implementation of the 2018 General Education Program, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, mentioned the number of days off for Lunar New Year 2025 for students in the city.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu said that currently in the school year plan of the Ministry of Education and Training, the school year starts from September 5 and ends on May 31, a total of 38 weeks, plus a few days. If we subtract the holidays in the year, there are exactly 35 weeks of actual study, with 1 or 2 days left.

Therefore, this year, Ho Chi Minh City has arranged for students to have a full week off for Tet, plus weekends for a total of 9 days. According to the leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, this holiday schedule is very close to the above plan.
The Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City shared that recently the city has faced a lot of pressure regarding the Tet holiday for students. Among them, there have been many opinions raised about the fact that Ho Chi Minh City is a locality with many students from different provinces and cities, but students only have 9 days off for Tet, which is too little.
After listening to feedback, Ho Chi Minh City has adjusted the Tet holiday for students by 2 more days, making it 11 days.
Leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City education sector also raised concerns about how many other localities give students a 2-week Tet holiday, and some even give students a 17-day Tet holiday, so they can ensure 35 weeks of actual study for students.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu hopes that in the coming years, localities can review to avoid putting pressure on other localities like the case of Ho Chi Minh City.
"Or the Ministry of Education and Training should allow students to start school 1-2 weeks earlier. Currently, we set the school start date as September 5 and end date as May 31, so it is very difficult for localities to arrange more Tet holiday for students," Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu suggested.
According to the school year plan of Ho Chi Minh City, the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday for preschool, primary, secondary and high school students is expected to start from January 25, 2025 to February 2, 2025 (ie December 26 to January 5).
The total number of days off per school week is one week, plus weekends for a total of 9 days.
After that, Ho Chi Minh City adjusted the Tet holiday for students by 2 more days to 11 days. Students will start their holiday from January 23 to February 2, 2025 (ie December 24 to January 5).
Up to this point, according to the announcement of the 2025 Tet holiday of the provinces and cities, Kon Tum is the locality that gives students the longest Tet holiday of up to 17 days (from January 24 to February 9, 2025).
In a series of provinces and cities such as Binh Phuoc, Tra Vinh, Tay Ninh, Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Quang Ninh, Soc Trang... students have 14 days off for Tet.
Hanoi is the locality that gives students the least Tet holiday, students only have 9 days off, from January 25 to February 2, 2025, the same as the holiday schedule of workers nationwide.
