I once asked to sing but no one accepted because I only knew "old people's" songs.

Revealed the reason for asking to sing but no one accepted

Tung Duong has left his mark in the Vietnamese music industry with his "unique - strange - magical" songs, voice and performance style.

In recent years, the name Tung Duong has become more widely known on social networks, especially to young audiences, through covers of many pop songs such as: "Ai chung tinh duoc mai", "Anh oi o lai", "Ngay chua gio bao", "Nang tho", "Ben tren thang lau", "Sau loi tu xu"...

Tung Duong has just returned with a new song "Canh chim phoenix" with a budget of 1 billion VND. On this occasion, he said he wanted to change his musical thinking to be newer, younger and closer to the audience.

Talking about this change, in the program "Life and career stories", Tung Duong said that he always reminds himself that everything comes to him very naturally, not too presumptuous to have balance, otherwise he will lose the audience.

"At some point, I realized that I needed to be open-minded and updated. I also needed to know the songs of the youth, if I said I didn't know them, it wouldn't be okay. Before, I only knew the songs of the "old people", so when I applied for a job or asked to sing, no one accepted me, that was too extreme.

I still maintain my determination for the job, but not too extreme. If I choose to be extreme, I will become withdrawn and not listen to anyone. That example has happened to many people.

I don't want to mention their names, but I think they are too extreme. I don't want to make such an extreme choice. I still want to blend into the general flow of the market. But at the same time, I am still myself, free to have my own musical space," the male artist confided.

Previously, in the program "People in many professions", Tung Duong also admitted that he had asked to sing at music venues but the show organizers all shook their heads and no one accepted. Meanwhile, artists of the same age such as Luu Huong Giang, Khanh Linh, Thai Thuy Linh... were all accepted to sing.

Partly because female artists are more likely to be accepted. Partly because the music Tung Duong sings is not suitable for bars and tea rooms.

"I went to some tea rooms and hotels to ask to sing. The show organizer listened attentively to me and said: This girl sings well, has a good voice, but no one here listens to this music. The music you sing is like you're possessed, who would listen?

I looked back at my luggage, all the music of Tran Tien, Duong Thu, Pho Duc Phuong, and the music of divos and divas (male and female singers with names, influence on the public and contribute to the success of the country's music), so how could I sing in bars and tea rooms like that, it was not suitable.

The show producer asked me if I could sing any pop songs or Chinese songs with Vietnamese lyrics. At that moment, I was surprised to find that I didn't know any songs. I didn't know any pop songs, I only sang tricky songs that showed off my voice and were difficult to sing because I liked them.

At that time, I thought the sky was falling, I had failed. If I asked to sing now and no one would accept me, how could I become famous in the future?" the singer recalled.

Looking back on his career, Tung Duong said that if he did not have enough willpower and determination, he would never have been able to pursue this singing career.

"Luckily, after important milestones such as Sao Mai Diem Hen, Tieng Hat Hay Ha Noi, Cong Hien... I have shaped my style, developed my artistic path and personality.

Personality is not enough now, it is only the inside, the artist must create his own school. Personality determines the school, creates the school and the artist must create his own school.

I am proud that I can be influenced and learn from those who have gone before me, but I do not copy them but filter their good points to create my own path, not fumbling, always taking the long road," the divo confided.

Drifting into a world of my own

Known as the "divo of Vietnamese music", few people know that Tung Duong had a peaceful childhood but lived a rather introverted life. He said that when he was 5 years old, his friends were leaves, curtains, and ants. He did not have many friends and "drifted" into his own world.

His musical talent was also revealed from a very young age. "Once my parents took me to see a music show. When the lights came on and the singers were dancing to the music, there was a boy who danced more enthusiastically than the singer in his parents' arms. That was Tung Duong.

At that time, my father knew I had a talent for music and let me sing everywhere at small parties, with my guitar teacher. At that time, the salary was only equal to a bowl of pho, or a pack of candy," the male singer said.

Tung Duong talks about his childhood growing up in a family with a tradition of education.

To have Tung Duong as he is today, the singer said he is grateful to have grown up in a family with a father who is a teacher, a mother who is a fashion designer, and uncles who also work in the education industry.

He said his childhood was quite peaceful. Later, when his parents went to Russia to do business, he lacked the closeness of his parents, but in return, he received strict training from his uncles and grandfather.

"Since I was a little kid, I knew how to do laundry, cook, clean the house, sweep the floor... But I did it all while singing. I sang everywhere, all the time.

Later, because I sang too much, my studies declined, my uncles even "locked" me up, not allowing me to sing but forcing me to stay home to focus on studying culture", the divo recalled.
