Vietnam Water Week 2025: Fast, strong, and substantial innovation in the new era

On August 20, in Hanoi , the Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association (VWSA) held the opening ceremony of Vietnam Water Week 2025.

Attending the opening ceremony were representatives of ministries and branches, many delegates representing more than 400 members of the Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association, associations in the fields of water, environment, urban areas, construction, ... with the presence of 30 international organizations.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Tuong Van emphasized that clean water supply, flood control and wastewater treatment are essential needs and services, directly related to human health, socio- economic development and environmental protection.

The Ministry of Construction is focusing on amending the Construction Law, coordinating with other ministries and branches to amend the Planning Law, which are laws directly related to the field of water supply and drainage. Also in 2025, the Ministry of Construction will organize an assessment of the implementation results of the Orientation for the development of water supply and drainage to 2025, with a vision to 2050, the Program to prevent clean water loss and loss to 2025 and the Program to ensure safe water supply for the period 2016-2025; on that basis, it will submit to the Prime Minister for promulgation the orientation for the development of water supply and drainage and ensuring safe water supply in the new period 2026-2030.

In response to new requirements, the Ministry of Construction has drafted the Law on Water Supply and Drainage, expected to be completed in 2026 and submitted to the National Assembly for approval in 2027.

At the same time, the Ministry also focuses on amending the Construction Law, coordinating the amendment of the Planning Law, and summarizing important programs on water supply, drainage, preventing clean water loss and ensuring safe water supply for the period 2016 - 2025. On that basis, it will submit to the Government orientations for the development of water supply, drainage and water supply safety for the period 2026-2030.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Diep, Chairman of the Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association, said that the Vietnamese water industry enters 2025 with many expectations, but at the same time faces many challenges: increasingly severe climate change, rapid urbanization, declining water resources, a lack of synchronization in the infrastructure system, and new requirements for service quality and environmental protection.

However, amid those challenges, opportunities also open up, with the strong digital transformation process, the explosion of science and technology, the spirit of innovation, and especially the close attention and direction of the Party and Government.

"In particular, Resolution 57 of the Politburo that has just been issued is a major strategic milestone, affirming that science, technology, innovation and digital transformation are key driving forces for rapid and sustainable national development. In particular, the water sector - with its essential role in urban, rural, health, production and environmental development - is one of the areas that needs rapid, strong and substantial innovation," Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Diep emphasized.

According to the Chairman of the Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association, the theme of this year's event: "Vietnam's water industry in the new era: Challenges and opportunities" clearly demonstrates the strategic vision and determination to act of the entire industry.

Vietnam Water Week 2025 is a major annual event on water supply, drainage and wastewater treatment in Vietnam. This event contributes to strengthening cooperation between Vietnam's water sector and the International Water Association and Water Associations of countries around the world in many areas of investment, water management, and access to modern science and technology.

According to the Organizing Committee, many digital solutions and advanced technologies will be introduced and demonstrated at 200 exhibition booths, demonstrating a strong transformation to meet the requirements of socio-economic development and adaptation to climate change. Thereby, creating opportunities for exchange, promoting cooperation, technology transfer, and trade promotion between businesses.

Along with the exhibition space, Vietnam Water Week 2025 focuses on 4 thematic seminars. The highlight is the scientific seminar "Efficient advanced water supply and drainage technology" bringing together experts, scientists, and lecturers from leading universities in the fields of water supply, drainage, and wastewater treatment. Along with that is the seminar "Gender equality in the water industry" and the Open Technical Seminar - where equipment manufacturing companies introduce the latest equipment and technology.

Notably, for the first time, Vietnam Water Week 2025 organized an online exhibition alongside a live exhibition at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Cultural Palace, marking an important transformation of the water industry in the digital era.

Accordingly, VWSA cooperated to organize an online exhibition with AROBID - a digital exhibition and B2B e-commerce platform in Vietnam to expand interaction and trade flexibly and continuously 24/7.

This combination marks a strategic digital transformation process, and demonstrates a vision to redefine the water industry: from a traditional natural resource to a valuable “digital asset”, unlimited in space and time.
