On July 16, Mr. Nguyen Cong Hao, head of the Inspection and Legal Department of Hue University, said that Hue University had received information and documents related to a doctoral thesis conducted at Hue University of Sciences that was accused of plagiarism and had many errors in the review.
This doctoral thesis, titled "History of Vietnam: The process of formation, development and transformation of royal festivals in Hue from 1802 to 1945", was defended at the Doctoral Thesis Defense Council of Hue University on March 23, 2018.
This is the doctoral thesis of Ms. LTAH, head of a unit in charge of scientific research at the Hue Monuments Conservation Center.
The above doctoral thesis has 4 chapters, including: Overview of the research situation; Nguyen Dynasty royal festivals in the period 1802 - 1885; Nguyen Dynasty royal festivals in the period 1885 - 1945 and Characteristics, values and preservation of Nguyen Dynasty royal festivals today.
According to the accusation, this thesis contained 40 errors that were allegedly plagiarized from various sources of information and books (mainly plagiarized sentences) and 26 errors in refuting historical information.
Mr. Hao said that after receiving the information, Hue University held a meeting and agreed on a plan to handle the incident. Accordingly, Hue University will conduct inspection and verification steps, request the doctoral student to make a report, review the implementation process as well as criticize and defend this thesis according to the correct procedure.
"After we have the results, we will inform the press," said Mr. Hao.
Regarding the incident, Tuoi Tre Online also contacted Ms. AH to learn about the incident but Ms. H. has not responded.
