This morning (September 13), Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan, Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University), issued a notice on not holding the opening ceremony of the 2024-2025 school year, using funds to support people in flood-affected areas.

The announcement reads: "In recent days, storm No. 3 (also known as super typhoon Yagi) and floods caused by the storm's circulation have caused serious damage to people and property in the northern provinces of our country. In the spirit of sharing, the school has decided not to hold the opening ceremony of the 2024-2025 school year on the morning of September 27 as planned. The school will use the funds from the opening ceremony to support people in flood-affected areas with an amount of 100 million VND."

Along with that, responding to the call of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the school mobilized civil servants, employees and students to contribute to support people in the northern provinces to overcome the consequences of natural disasters according to the general plan of Ho Chi Minh City National University.

Although the opening ceremony was not held, the activities to welcome new students within the framework of the opening ceremony still took place as planned such as: interactive space with businesses, rewards, scholarship awards, skill sharing activities for students...

Previously, according to the plan, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University) planned to hold the opening ceremony of the 2024-2025 school year on September 27.

Currently, many other universities are organizing fundraising campaigns to support people affected by storm No. 3.
