Fraudsters will use social media accounts (Facebook, Zalo, etc.) to lure victims into accessing links containing malicious code. A common trick that scammers often use is to ask for registration to vote on behalf of others or to send gifts.

Their purpose is to collect information and take control of social network accounts. Then, the criminals will use the stolen accounts to message relatives on the friend list and ask to borrow money or transfer money to a bank account.

Notably, the scammer will send account information with the same name as the social network account owner so that the victim trusts them and transfers money. Not stopping there, the scammer can also recreate the face and voice of the account owner using Deepfake/Swapface technology.

From there, the scammer will create fake videos to make short, poor quality video calls under the pretext of network errors to make the victim trust and transfer money as requested.

To avoid falling into the trap of scammers, users need to be extremely vigilant and always verify the identity of relatives before transferring money by calling directly through the phone number. Users should not verify their identity via messaging apps or video calls on social networking platforms.

At the same time, users absolutely do not take photos of card information or send OTP security codes via any messaging application, website or send them to anyone (including people claiming to be bank employees).

In addition, users should not provide personal information, identification documents, or bank account information to anyone. Banks say they never ask customers to provide such information.

In case of unfortunately falling into the trap of scammers, users need to quickly contact the bank they are using to receive timely support.
