HCMC: University admission scores at many schools fluctuate strongly

As of the evening of August 22, many universities in Ho Chi Minh City have announced admission benchmark scores for various admission methods.

The announcements from the schools show that the benchmark scores in many majors and schools have increased compared to last year; only the Health and Law majors have decreased; while the Pedagogy major still maintains high benchmark scores in some majors, especially with the method of considering high school graduation exam scores.

The benchmark score for the high school graduation exam results of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade ranges from 17 to 24.5 points. The benchmark score for Logistics and Supply Chain Management is the highest at 24.5 points; followed by Marketing and Law at 24 points.

The majors of Food Technology, Electrical - Electronic Engineering Technology, Mechatronic Engineering Technology, Garment Technology, and Biotechnology have benchmark scores from 18.5 to 23 points.

The school's benchmark scores generally increased by 0.5-2 points; the industry with the strongest increase was Mechatronic Engineering Technology, from a benchmark score of 18 last year to 22 points.

This year, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics will enroll 8,600 students at its two campuses in Ho Chi Minh City and Vinh Long branch.

The school recruits students using many methods, in which the standard score for the high school graduation exam is between 22.8 and 27.7 points for training programs at the main campus in Ho Chi Minh City.

The majors with high benchmark scores are Logistics and Supply Chain Management (27.7 points); Marketing Technology (26.65 points); Marketing (26.5 points). The majors of International Business, International Finance, Digital Communications and Multimedia Design have the same benchmark score of 26.3 points. At the Vinh Long branch, the benchmark scores of the majors are lower than the main campus, ranging from 17-22 points.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Vietnam National University, takes the standard score from 55.05 to 85.41 points on a 100-point scale according to the comprehensive review method.

The group of majors with the highest benchmark score is Computer Science with 85.41 points; the lowest is Construction and Construction Management with 55.05 points. The school's overall admission score is the sum of academic performance, bonus points and priority points; in which, academic performance points include the results of the capacity assessment test, transcripts and high school graduation exam; priority points are determined based on priority subjects and areas; bonus points are considered from personal achievements, social activities, literature-sports-arts with a maximum of 10 points on a scale of 100.

This year, the University of Technology, Ho Chi Minh City National University, will enroll 5,550 students. According to the university's statistics, in this admission period, nearly 48% of candidates achieved a score of 900 points or higher in the Competency Assessment Test; nearly 21% of candidates achieved a score of 27 points or higher in the High School Graduation Exam and a score of 900 points or higher in the Competency Assessment Test.

In addition, about 3,300 candidates with standard English certificates (equivalent to IELTS Academic from 5.0 or higher) were converted into 8-10 points in English.

As one of the leading universities in technology, the University of Information Technology, Ho Chi Minh City National University has a fairly high admission score in all admission methods.

In particular, the benchmark score for considering high school graduation exam results ranges from 24 to 29.6 points, the highest being in Artificial Intelligence. In general, the school's admission scores increased in some key engineering and high-tech majors.

Ho Chi Minh City Open University's benchmark scores range from 15-24 points based on high school graduation scores; the highest is Psychology, followed by Marketing, Law, and Economic Law from 23-23.25 points.

With the method of considering the competency assessment test scores, Ho Chi Minh City National University takes from 567-870 points, the highest is also Psychology.

In the health sector, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine this year recruited about 1,900 students, an increase of more than 300 compared to last year, by two methods: direct admission and considering high school graduation exam scores.

The school's benchmark scores range from 18-25.55 points, down about 1-5.2 points compared to last year. Medicine and Dentistry are the two majors with the highest and second highest benchmark scores at the school, at 25.26 points and 25.55 points respectively, down about 1 point compared to last year.

The lowest benchmark scores were for Nutrition and Public Health with 18 points, down 5.2 points and 3 points respectively compared to last year.

Many other majors have a benchmark score decrease of more than 3 points, such as Nursing, Pharmacy, Traditional Medicine, Medical Imaging Technology, and Medical Laboratory Technology.

As a large health training unit in the Southern region, the benchmark scores of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy also decreased from 0.4 to 4 points compared to last year.

Specifically, the two majors with high admission scores of this university are Medicine and Dentistry, respectively 27.34 points and 26.45 (down nearly 1 point compared to last year); some majors with admission standards decreased by more than 3 points are Midwifery, Nutrition, Preventive Medicine, Traditional Medicine, Nursing.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Law has a benchmark score of 18.12 to 25.65, most majors decreased by 1-4 points compared to last year; in which, Business Administration has the lowest benchmark score, International Commercial Law has the highest benchmark score.

In the Pedagogy sector, Saigon University has a high standard score, ranging from 22-28.98 points; the highest is in Chemistry Pedagogy. The standard scores of the majors have been converted to the original combination on a 30-point scale, with all methods.

For non-public schools, the benchmark score in most schools is between 15 and 20.5 points. Of which, Medicine and Dentistry have the highest benchmark score at 20.5 points; Pharmacy and Traditional Medicine have 19 points; the remaining majors have common benchmark scores from 15 to 18 points.
