Ho Chi Minh City: Testing to find the cause of suspected food poisoning in 37 people after eating bread, 33 of whom are students

The leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety said that the department has received information about the incident and is waiting with the locality for test results to clarify the cause of 37 people being hospitalized with suspected food poisoning.

Talking to Tuoi Tre Online about the incident of 37 people hospitalized due to suspected food poisoning on March 29, Ms. Pham Khanh Phong Lan - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety - said that the department had received information about the incident and together with the locality is waiting for test results to clarify the cause.

Previously on March 29, District 11 Hospital (HCMC) received 37 cases of abdominal pain, vomiting, and suspected food poisoning. Among the patients, the majority were students of Tan Tuc Secondary School, Binh Chanh District (33 children aged 13-15) and 1 6-year-old child, 3 adults.

On the afternoon of March 30, Dr. Pham Anh Tuan, head of the general planning department of District 11 Hospital, said that among the 37 people suspected of food poisoning, there were several adults who were drivers and teachers, and the rest were students.

Currently, 36 patients have been discharged from the hospital, only 1 child is still being monitored at the hospital.

Previously, at around 1:00 p.m. on March 29, 37 people were taken to the hospital with symptoms such as stomachache and vomiting.

These people are drivers, teachers and students of Tan Tuc Secondary School, Binh Chanh District, who said that they bought bread to eat that morning and then suffered from the above symptoms. Doctors suspect that the patients suffered from food poisoning from eating bread.

Doctor Tuan also said that the delegation from the City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) and the delegation from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety came to record the suspected food poisoning case.

A few days ago, Ho Chi Minh City also recorded many students of two primary and secondary schools in the Tue Duc education system (Thu Duc City) showing signs of abdominal pain.

Some children had headaches, nausea, diarrhea; some had mild stomachaches; some had to be hospitalized. These students showed these symptoms after eating breakfast, lunch, and snacks at school and were suspected of having food poisoning.
