A proposal for the architectural competition to select the Thu Thiem 4 bridge project
According to the original design, the bridge has a total length of nearly 2.2 km, 28 m wide with 6 lanes and 2 sidewalks; a design life of 100 years, can withstand earthquakes of level 7; navigation clearance of 80 x 10 m; design speed of 60 km/h.
Crossing the Saigon River connecting Thu Thiem New Urban Area with South Saigon New Urban Area, Thu Thiem 4 Bridge is one of the key projects expected to contribute to reducing traffic congestion from the South of the city to the center, while promoting the development of Thu Thiem New Urban Area.
In the new list reported to the City People's Committee by the Department of Transport, the total investment of Thu Thiem 4 Bridge is expected to be 4,950 billion VND, a decrease of more than 300 billion VND compared to the estimated 5,300 billion VND in the previous phase. The capital reduction is due to adjustments and updates to some items.
Location of Thu Thiem 4 Bridge
In 2015, a consortium of three domestic real estate and construction companies sent a document to the City Party Committee and People's Committee proposing to invest in this project in the form of land exchange in the Thu Thiem New Urban Area with a total investment of VND5,200 billion. The city then proposed to the Prime Minister to allow the consortium to build the bridge under the BT (build-transfer) form. However, due to changes in investment procedures, especially legal procedures related to BT projects, the project was delayed and then had to be implemented in the form of bidding to select investors.
If approved, the project is expected to select an investor, start construction in 2024 and be completed and put into use in 2028.
