Thousands of children in Hanoi take vitamin A supplements for the second time

On December 1, Hanoi organized the second round of the vitamin A supplement campaign. The campaign took place on December 1 and 2, and ended on December 3 and 4.

According to statistics, the whole city has 380,944 children from 6 to 35 months old receiving vitamin A supplements at 1,612 drinking points. The target is for 99.8% of children to receive vitamin A supplements.

According to the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC), vitamin A is an important micronutrient for children's health, especially children from 6 to 36 months old. A lack of vitamin A will cause children to grow slowly and become susceptible to infections. Severe vitamin A deficiency causes dry eyes, which if not treated promptly will lead to permanent blindness.

According to experts, there are three main causes of vitamin A deficiency: a diet lacking in vitamin A; infectious and parasitic diseases; and malnutrition.
