On February 26, the Russian Senate ratified the Security Treaty between Belarus and Russia within the framework of the Union State.

Previously, on February 18, the Russian State Duma (Lower House) also ratified this treaty.

Also on February 26, the Belarusian Senate ratified the above treaty.

According to the treaty, relations between Russia and Belarus within the framework of the Union State will not be directed against other states and will be conducted in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter and other norms of international law.

The Russia-Belarus Security Treaty was signed by the two sides in Minsk on December 6, 2024.

According to the agreement, the two countries undertake to support each other by all agreed and internationally accepted measures and means, and to take appropriate actions in the political, military and other fields in case the security of any party and the Union State as a whole is attacked.

The Treaty provides that both parties will regard an armed attack on a member of the Union State as an act of aggression against the entire Union State and will take appropriate countermeasures using all available forces and means.

According to the agreement, Russian nuclear weapons can be used in response to a nuclear or conventional attack that threatens the sovereignty or territorial integrity of Russia or Belarus. To prevent such threats, Russian military facilities and troops can be deployed in Belarus./.
