On the morning of June 19, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training officially announced the exam scores of more than 98,000 candidates taking the 10th grade entrance exam for public schools in the 2024-2025 school year.
The valedictorian was Nguyen Minh Anh (Tran Quang Khai Secondary School) with 28.75 points.
Minh Anh got 10 points in Math and Foreign Language, and 8.75 points in Literature.
In addition, there are 3 other candidates who also achieved a score of 28.5.
56% of candidates have Math scores below 5
According to statistics, 49 candidates scored 10 in Math; 31 candidates scored 9.75; 276 candidates scored 9. With scores of 8 or higher, more than 2,000 candidates achieved this score.
In addition, about 56% of candidates scored below 5. Last year, the rate was 46%. There were 82 candidates who scored 0.
Previously, after finishing the Math exam, many teachers and students said that this year's Math exam was more difficult than previous years. Mr. Le Hoai Nam - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City - explained that the purpose of the 10th grade entrance exam is to ensure differentiation requirements to select better and better students to enter top schools, and good and average students to enter suitable high schools.
"Difficult exam questions do not affect admission requirements or candidates' choice of preferences, because the questions are generally difficult," Mr. Nam emphasized.
Mr. Ho Tan Minh - Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City - also said that before making the exam questions, the exam team had built a test matrix: "From 2014 to now, the real-life elements of the Ho Chi Minh City Math exam have been added. Candidates are required to apply the math knowledge they have learned to solve the problems posed in the questions, aiming at the 2018 education program, requiring students to reason at a higher level".

How to calculate admission scores to grade 10 public high schools as follows:
Admission score = Literature exam score + Foreign language exam score + Math exam score + Priority points (if any).
After the exam scores are announced, if there is a need for a review, candidates can submit an application from June 21 to 24.
It is expected that at 4:00 p.m. on June 24, the Department of Education and Training will announce the benchmark scores for specialized, integrated, and direct admission 10th grade.
From June 25 to 4:00 p.m. on June 29, candidates admitted to specialized classes, integrated classes, and direct admission must submit their admission applications to the school they were admitted to. Candidates who do not submit their admission applications will have their names removed from the admission list.

On July 5, the specialized and integrated high school organized to receive additional admitted candidates after the review.
It is expected that on July 10, the 10th grade benchmark scores and the list of candidates admitted to grade 10 for the 2024-2025 school year will be announced.
In 2024, Ho Chi Minh City has 98,681 candidates registering for the 10th grade entrance exam, of which public high schools recruit more than 77,300 candidates.
The exam takes place on June 6-7, with candidates taking three subjects: Math, Literature (120 minutes) and Foreign Language (90 minutes). Candidates enroll in specialized classes and take the corresponding additional exam within 150 minutes.
Of which, 98,418 candidates took the Literature exam, 263 were absent. 98,375 candidates took the Foreign Language exam, 306 were absent. 98,361 candidates took the Math exam, 320 were absent. 7,574 candidates took the specialized exam, 50 were absent.
