On June 12, information from Quang Ninh Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital said that the hospital had just saved a pregnant mother and her child from anaphylactic shock due to an allergic reaction after eating stork eggs.
According to information from the hospital, the woman was 38 weeks pregnant and was admitted with difficulty breathing, drowsiness, and mild uterine contractions. After being admitted, the patient was diagnosed with grade 2 anaphylactic shock due to allergies and acute fetal distress.
Faced with this situation, Quang Ninh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital activated the red alert, implemented active resuscitation measures, squeezed the balloon through the endotracheal tube, and used emergency intravenous fluids.
The pregnant woman was also transferred to the emergency surgery room to deliver the baby immediately to save the lives of both mother and child.
After 7 days of treatment, mother and baby recovered well.

After the cesarean section, the baby boy was born weighing 2.5 kg but had weak cries, weak reflexes, and neonatal respiratory failure. The baby was actively resuscitated by the doctor, intubated, and transferred to the Neonatal Department for monitoring and care. At the same time, the mother was transferred to the Intensive Care Department for continued resuscitation and postnatal care.
Currently, the health of both mother and child is stable. The baby has good reflexes, breathes, sucks on his own, digests milk and is discharged from the hospital with his mother.
According to the patient's family, the family had previously caught stork eggs in the forest to prepare dinner for the family of 6. About 1 hour later, 3 family members showed signs of an allergic reaction, including the pregnant woman, her younger brother and sister. The pregnant woman's younger brother and sister had rashes all over their bodies and had difficulty breathing, and were taken to the emergency room at Ha Long General Hospital and Bai Chay Hospital.
The pregnant woman was transferred to the Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital for emergency care.
Doctors recommend that pregnant women should avoid eating strange foods that are suspected of causing allergies or poisoning because this affects the health and life of both mother and child. When pregnant, women should carefully study the allergy history of themselves and their family members to proactively prevent risks when using food and medicine.
If pregnant women have any unusual signs, they should go to the hospital immediately for examination, monitoring and timely treatment.
