Customers are upset because they are charged 3 times higher than the price listed on the menu.
A female YouTuber with 1.6 million followers living in Thailand is causing a stir when she posted her experience at one of Bangkok's most famous street food restaurants, Raan Jay Fai, which has long been awarded a Michelin star.
The guest said that he recently brought a foreign friend to enjoy the famous crab meat omelette dish cooked by Ms. Jay Fai.

In her post, the girl said she ordered exactly what was on the menu. Specifically, the price for the crab egg roll was 1,500 baht (1.2 million VND). However, when paying, the bill was up to 4,000 baht (about 3.6 million VND).
Surprised by being charged nearly three times the actual price, the customer questioned the restaurant’s response, which left her feeling frustrated and unsatisfied.

According to the restaurant's explanation, they charged a higher price than the menu price because they used "higher quality crab meat".
The customer admitted that the food was delicious. The crab meat was sweet and of good quality. However, the price was not listed on the menu. She also confirmed that she did not order the special and was not informed by the staff that the restaurant would use more expensive crab meat.
“If a restaurant wants to charge more for premium ingredients, that is acceptable. However, they should clearly state it on the menu and inform customers in advance,” she said.
The female YouTuber's post, posted on August 15, quickly went viral on many social media platforms. The post on X (formerly Twitter) even reached 9 million views in just 16 hours, and attracted many mixed opinions.

It is worth mentioning that the controversial restaurant is one of the most famous restaurants in Bangkok, located on Mahachai Road, Phra Nakhon District.
The restaurant was awarded a Michelin star in early 2018 and has maintained the title ever since. The restaurant's owner, 81-year-old Supinya Junsuta, has also become a global celebrity in the culinary world thanks to her famous crab omelette.
She even became the inspiration for the main character in a documentary about food, which premiered in Bangkok in June.
Authorities intervene, request urgent investigation
Immediately after the female YouTuber's accusations caused a stir, on August 19, Trade Minister Jatuporn Buruspat asked the Department of Internal Trade (DIT) to investigate.
Mr Jatuporn said he had instructed the DIT to inspect Ms Supinya Junsuta's restaurant, after customers accused the establishment of charging nearly three times the listed price for food.
“Menu prices must match the bill. Business can only develop sustainably when customers trust the restaurant. If customers feel that the prices are not as listed, they will lose trust,” Minister Jatuporn emphasized.
The minister’s actions quickly received approval from the Thai public. Many people said that the restaurant should inform customers instead of arbitrarily raising prices. Some other comments wondered why crab egg rolls could be sold at such a high price, while affirming that it could be made at home for much less.
Jay Fai has long been considered a Thai “culinary legend”, famous for his meticulous cooking style and signature ski goggles to shield his eyes from charcoal smoke.
The dish that is most famous for her is the crab omelette (kai jeaw poo), a crispy, golden egg filled with sweet crab meat. This is also the dish that caused the controversy in this incident.
