Explosions have rocked the Koniko gas plant in the eastern Syrian province of Deir Ez-Zor, which is used as a base by US forces.

Explosions following a missile strike rocked the Koniko gas plant in the eastern Syrian province of Deir Ez-Zor, which is used as a base by US forces, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said. Sham FM radio also reported loud explosions coming from the gas field. However, there were no reports of casualties or damage.

Earlier, another explosion was recorded near the US military base in Al-Tanf, southeastern Syria, according to SOHR. US forces intercepted drones targeting the Al-Tanf base, near the Syria-Iraq-Jordan border triangle. At least one drone was shot down about 3km from the base. The Iraqi Shiite Islamic Resistance group has claimed responsibility for the first attack at Al-Tanf.

In the past month alone, since October 19, there have been 39 attacks on US military bases in Syria. Dozens of similar attacks have also been reported in neighboring Iraq. The US currently has 900 troops stationed in Syria and 2,500 in Iraq. These troops are on a mission to advise and assist local forces in preventing the resurgence of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization.
