According to information from Vietnam News Agency, during his visit and work in the United States, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc had a meeting with Tim Hughes, Senior Vice President of SpaceX Corporation on April 10.

Starlink is a service of aerospace technology company SpaceX (founded by technology billionaire Elon Musk), using satellites launched into orbit to provide global Internet coverage.

To provide Internet service globally, SpaceX will launch about 30,000 satellites into low Earth orbit (550km altitude), forming a network that covers the Earth. Starlink satellites will be designed to broadcast broadband Internet from space to Earth.

The advantage of Starlink is that it can provide Internet to anywhere in the world, even remote areas, areas that are difficult to access to the Internet or regular mobile networks.

Previously, Decision No. 659/QD-TTg issued by the Government on March 23 allowed aerospace company SpaceX to pilot a controlled Starlink satellite Internet service in Vietnam.

The Government's decision also sets out specific requirements and conditions for SpaceX's pilot, including a five-year term ending before January 1, 2031, a maximum subscription limit of 600,000, and ensuring security and defense requirements.

The move to license Starlink for pilot operations is Vietnam's strategy to attract foreign investment capital.

In addition, the Starlink service will also help expand Internet coverage, especially in remote areas, islands, where terrestrial telecommunications infrastructure is limited, helping everyone access Internet services, contributing to accelerating the digital transformation process in Vietnam.
