The World Humanoid Robot Games 2025 opened on August 15 in Beijing, China, with more than 500 robots competing in events ranging from the 100-meter hurdles to Kung Fu.

According to the Organizing Committee, robot competitions have been held for decades, but this is the first competition to focus entirely on human-like robots.

Also known as the “2025 World Humanoid Robot Games,” the tournament will feature hundreds of teams from 16 countries. Competitions include traditional sports like track and field and basketball, as well as practical tasks like sorting medicines and cleaning.

One of the competitions on the morning of August 15 was 5-a-side football, in which 10 robots the size of 7-year-old children moved around the field but collided or fell many times.

Meanwhile, in the 1,500m race, humanoid robots from Unitree Robotics moved on the track at impressive speeds, easily surpassing their opponents.

At the Kung Fu competition area, a small humanoid robot fell to the floor but turned around to stand up, receiving cheers from the audience.

Several schools in China have organized demonstrations for students to watch, aiming to inspire young people about this new technology.

According to official figures, China is now the world's largest market for industrial robots.

Last March, the country announced a 1,000 billion yuan (NDT) fund, equivalent to about 139 billion USD, to support technology startups, including those in the fields of robot design and artificial intelligence (AI).
