Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training: Will inspect history teaching at private schools

(NLDO) - Currently, at international schools in Ho Chi Minh City, history is not organized as an independent subject.

The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has just sent a document reporting to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on resolving voters' petitions before and after the 20th session of the 10th term Ho Chi Minh City People's Council.

The Department has received, reviewed and reported on the content related to the inspection and supervision of history teaching and learning at international schools in Ho Chi Minh City.

Specifically, at present, at international schools in the city, history is not organized as an independent subject but is integrated into the Vietnamese language and Vietnamese studies program. This is a compulsory education program for Vietnamese students studying at international schools, according to the provisions of Decree No. 86/2018 of the Government and Circular No. 04/2020 of the Ministry of Education and Training.

For primary school students: The Vietnamese program helps students form and develop vocabulary and Vietnamese language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) for age-appropriate learning and communication, while also accessing basic knowledge about Vietnamese culture and people. The duration is not less than 140 minutes/week, applicable to all grades.

Vietnamese Studies Program (from grade 4 to grade 5): Provides basic knowledge about typical historical events, figures, cultural traditions, customs, and good practices of Vietnam; simple understanding of the geographical location, territory, territorial waters, seas and islands, climate, mountains and rivers, resources, and minerals of Vietnam. Through this, students develop love for their homeland, country, and national pride. Duration is not less than 70 minutes/week.

In the near future, the Department of Education and Training will inspect the teaching content of history at private educational institutions.

For middle and high school students: The Vietnamese Studies program provides general, systematic knowledge about Vietnamese history, geography, culture and traditions; contributes to fostering patriotism, civic awareness, sense of responsibility and positive attitude towards life. Duration is not less than 90 minutes/week.

According to the City Department of Education and Training, the department has also organized regular or surprise inspections and supervision of professional activities at educational institutions with foreign elements to ensure proper implementation of regulations on educational content for Vietnamese students.

Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training issues important notes for candidates before 10th grade exam day

(NLDO)-During the 10th grade exams, candidates who arrive more than 15 minutes late after the test start time signal will not be allowed to take that exam.


"In the coming time, the City Department of Education and Training will develop a plan to organize specialized tests on history teaching content, especially at private educational institutions implementing the 2018 General Education Program and the Vietnamese Studies Program," the document stated.
