Many vegetable producers supplying Hanoi have suffered almost total losses after storm No. 3. The supply of green vegetables to people may be affected, but retail systems are actively increasing supply, sometimes even exceeding demand.

Two days after the storm, Ms. Thanh (Ba Dinh, Hanoi) went to the market and was still surprised because the price of vegetables continued to increase sharply. Each bunch of green vegetables almost doubled or tripled in price, causing her to compare "eating vegetables is now more expensive than eating meat".
Vegetables are more expensive than meat, some gardens... lost everything after storm number 3
Ms. Huong (Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi) said that not only green vegetables but also many types of fruits, tubers and foods have increased in price. Her family of six, the daily vegetable cost of 30,000 - 40,000 VND has now doubled, even increased to hundreds of thousands.
In vegetable growing areas, many units suffered heavy damage due to the impact. Storm No. 3. Hoa Binh General Service Cooperative has nearly 12 hectares of clean vegetables and more than 30 hectares of fruit trees located in Yen Nghia ward (Ha Dong, Hanoi) and almost all of its vegetables were lost due to the terrible destruction of the storm.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Son, director of the above cooperative, said that almost all leafy vegetable products were damaged.
Along with that, fruit trees such as grapefruit, jackfruit, banana... which were about to be harvested were almost completely wiped out, with total estimated damage of about 3 billion VND.
Mr. Son said he was mentally prepared for losses, but did not think all the vegetables and fruits that were about to be harvested would be lost.
"Early morning on September 8, after the storm passed, I went to my vegetable field without realizing it."
"We are also struggling because the output supplied to the units must be guaranteed according to the contract. Farmers are also upset," Mr. Son shared and said that now damage statistics with functional units, but there is no current support, the cooperative also determined to be proactive.
Mr. Hoang Van Tham, Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of Chuc Son Clean Vegetable and Fruit Cooperative (Ha Dong, Hanoi), is also worried about the two greenhouses with an area of 2,600m2, although installed and built with good structure, they are still severely damaged.
The clean vegetable area, which was invested in modernly and with great value, was in tatters. The greenhouse area was broken. Currently, his vegetable garden only has about 30% left.
Each month, this unit produces about 100 tons of clean vegetables for the modern retail system. According to Mr. Tham, the cooperative is focusing on repairing greenhouses, introducing water drainage tools, and biological products to treat fields to ensure quick recovery of the land for re-production.
With vegetable prices increasing by 200% in many places, Mr. Tham expressed his desire to have fundamental investment in drainage systems and inland areas to avoid flooding that causes damage to vegetable production.
At the same time, there are support policies. agricultural production focused, systematic high technology to better respond to increasingly strong storms.

Many supermarkets say supply exceeds demand, committed to keeping prices
MM Mega Market representative said that they have increased supply to the North, but on September 9, there was a situation of supply exceeding demand, some items were in surplus due to lower purchasing power compared to the previous day.
However, MM is still increasing food reserves due to concerns about possible supply chain disruptions if areas such as Hai Duong, Moc Chau... are flooded due to heavy rains after Typhoon Yagi.
"Many northern provinces are currently supplying large quantities of vegetables, fruits, meat... to MM, especially Moc Chau. Some areas are flooded, traffic is difficult, increasing stockpiles is necessary," said an MM representative.
Previously, MM tripled the number of trucks carrying vegetables and fruits from Lam Dong to the North (expected to be up to 40 tons of vegetables). Currently, this additional amount has been distributed to supermarkets, so the quantity is abundant.
Meanwhile, Ms. Tran Thi Que Huong, director of WinMart Timescity supermarket, said that the supply of goods at more than 1,000 stores in the WinMart/WinMart+/WiN chain in the North is currently stable, with some items even having supply exceeding demand even though the number of customers tends to increase after the storm.
"The unit is committed to continuing to maintain stable prices, especially for essential food products such as vegetables, meat, fish, rice, noodles, etc.," Ms. Huong affirmed.
Proactively coordinating supply sources even before the storm, Mr. Ha Long Thanh, production operations director of WinEco (Masan), said that with 14 farms of more than 3,000 hectares and an output of over 3,000 tons of vegetables per month, the unit continues to coordinate to increase the supply of vegetables to the North.
Specifically, from September 8-9, nearly 100 tons of essential vegetables were transported every day from the South and Lam Dong to the North.
"To ensure a stable supply of goods to the North until the end of the month, WinEco is stepping up production activities at farms in Lam Dong and the South," said Mr. Thanh.

Speaking to reporters on September 9, a representative of the Saigon Co.op system also said that two types of leafy vegetables, green mustard and Malabar spinach, are currently in short supply, mainly due to the vegetables being crushed.
However, the supermarket system has a plan to operate and supplement goods from Da Lat, even implementing Promotional Program with Da Lat vegetables. Basically, the supply is still guaranteed and the supermarket commits not to increase prices.
