On the morning of August 24, the sky of Hanoi seemed to be wearing a new look when the helicopters from Hoa Lac headed straight to the city center. Against the blue sky of the historic Ba Dinh Square, 10 helicopters appeared simultaneously, spreading their wings powerfully, creating a majestic and sacred scene during the practice session to serve the Great Ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2.
From around 8am, the roar of engines signaled the arrival of a helicopter squadron of the Air Defense - Air Force.
The formation of Mi-8, Mi-17, Mi-171 and Mi-172 aircraft was arranged in a 1-3-3-3 formation, maintaining an altitude of over 150m when flying over the Ba Dinh Square grandstand area.
Each plane maintained precise distance, 100m spacing, 50 x 50m horizontal - vertical distance, demonstrating the smooth coordination and strict discipline of the air force.
Not only a technical performance, the image of 10 helicopters simultaneously flying through the wind over Hanoi's iconic buildings has become an unforgettable moment.
The flight passed by the Hanoi Flag Tower – a historical witness of the Capital, passed by the Lenin statue, the Bac Son Martyrs Monument, and circled around Hoan Kiem Lake – the heart of the Capital.
Each flight path is like a stroke in the sky, recalling the heroic history, while affirming the spirit and strength to protect the Fatherland today.
People and tourists around Ba Dinh area eagerly watched each group of flights.
Every time the helicopter formation majestically passed by, there was continuous applause and cheers.
At around 9am, the Ba Dinh sky continued to be bustling as two Casa C212s of the Vietnam Air Force entered the formation. Departing from Gia Lam airport, the formation flew in parallel, circled over Hong Ha and Nghi Tam dykes, then headed straight towards Thanh Nien Street to head towards Ba Dinh Square.
Casa's wing, with its sturdy body, followed the Mi helicopter, bringing smooth coordination between air forces in a rare exercise right in the sky of the capital city.
This is the second time in a few days that Hanoians have witnessed a training session of helicopters and transport aircraft. Previously, at noon on August 21, the formation also appeared to prepare for the A80 Grand Ceremony.
