Sancho seems not focused on the new destination |
Sancho is expected to leave Manchester United this summer after four difficult years at Old Trafford. The former England international has been told by manager Ruben Amorim that he is no longer in his plans, while his current contract expires next summer.
Chelsea were initially seen as the most likely destination, as Sancho had spent the previous season on loan at the club, but the club, under Enzo Maresca, ultimately decided against activating the option to buy.
Roma quickly entered the game and opened negotiations with the 25-year-old. Sharing about the current situation, Massara told Sport Mediaset that Sancho is a quality player who has attracted interest from many Italian teams. However, he admitted that up to now, the deal has only stopped at the suggestion level. The reason is that "fate" does not seem to be qualified enough, especially in terms of the player's determination to push the process forward.
Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini, however, insisted the door was not closed. He said Sancho had never said no to Roma, stressing that there were still eight days left before the transfer window closed and that his team was already a strong unit. Gasperini added that in football, there was no limit to the worst-case or best-case scenarios.
Last season, Roma finished fifth in Serie A and qualified for the Europa League, despite a succession of managers. Claudio Ranieri even guided the capital club from the bottom of the table to almost Champions League qualification, before moving into an advisory role at the club this summer.
