According to TechSpot , the success of Helldivers 2 comes with some challenges. As the hit sci-fi shooter is struggling with system scaling issues, hundreds of thousands of players are facing long wait times due to limited servers.
Arrowhead Game Studios has attempted to address the issue by increasing server size several times since launch. The current cap has been raised to 700,000 concurrent players, nearly double the original cap of 250,000. However, this still doesn't seem to be enough.
"We've updated the maximum concurrent player limit to 700,000," development director Johan Pilestedt announced on X. "But we expect concurrent users to hit that threshold soon. However, wait times will be faster than before."

Pilestedt previously explained that scaling servers was a seamless process and not just a matter of money or buying new servers. “It was a matter of manpower,” he said. “We needed to optimize the back-end code and we were running into some real constraints.”
Even with the expanded scale, frustration remained high among the player base. Helldivers 2 's overwhelming popularity was a double-edged sword, with players often spending more time waiting than actually playing the game. Blizzard has had similar problems, believing they would meet server requirements on day one, but in reality they didn't.
Critics and fans alike praised Helldivers 2 for its intense gameplay, but server issues were the game's downfall. Positive reviews on Steam dropped due to long wait times, which also became the focus of many online discussions. However, the game's ratings have slowly returned to the top as Arrowhead has worked to meet player expectations, with the developer releasing a new patch to address in-game issues in addition to server enhancements.
Helldivers 2 is currently exclusive to PC and PlayStation 5, which has the Xbox gaming community calling on Arrowhead to quickly bring the game to their platforms.
