The iconic pants of summer are ready to reignite the desire for self-expression. Shorts are back with fresh new updates and timeless classics. Celebrities and their viral looks define the trends.

“This is as good as that” is a phrase that should never be uttered in front of your wardrobe. Even when you have to choose a basic item like a pair of shorts for your summer outfit. Even the smallest change of centimeters makes a difference, as does the width of the waist and, above all, the style in which they are chosen. Not only denim for the beach or in the city, the summer shorts category also has many alternatives for many different occasions, from super sexy leather pants to the latest cotton pants, boho lace pants to pleated Bermuda shorts.

The stars kicked off the season with looks that were beyond doubt. Of these, three styles have earned the title of absolute trendsetter: wide-leg jeans, hot pants and stylish boxer shorts. Denim shorts have been a staple of summer, but this year, the classic mid-thigh-cut silhouettes have been replaced by wider-leg styles. Flared, high-waisted and supremely comfortable, they come in a variety of denim washes and unique details like rips, zips and embellishments.

Shorts are getting shorter

The shorts trend for summer 2024 will go from one extreme to the other. While longer models from mid-calf to knee length are a practical choice for everyday life, bold designs with extremely short hems are conquering the wardrobes of stars. Increasingly short, also known as 'hot pants', are being chosen even in the form of jeans.

With low-rise styles like the ones Lily-Rose Depp wore for a night out with friends, both fabrics, from tweed to cotton to viscose, offer a sophisticated look that’s perfect for a French Riviera summer.

All those shorts that were considered inappropriate a few seasons ago but are now on the shelves of all stores are now more popular than ever.

From striped lined shorts that seemed to have been stolen from the underwear drawer last year, shorts have moved into tracksuits this summer, much loved by Emily Ratajkovski, who wears them in the city with crop tops and snakeskin tops for a sporty look. Up to almost childlike designs in the form of embroidered lace trims with drawstrings, bows and laces, embellished with beads, which Irina Shayk chooses for a country-inspired urban look. Paired with high-fringed boots and a denim jacket, they allow for everything from boho chic to modern interpretations of great wardrobe classics like a white shirt, T-shirt and flats.
