During the struggles for national liberation and defense of the Fatherland, Thanh Hoa City was the birthplace and nurtured for the country many heroes and heroes during the period of resistance against the Northern feudalism, the period of independence of the Vietnamese feudal dynasties and especially in the Ho Chi Minh era. Entering the resistance war against the US to save the country, the heroic historical and revolutionary tradition of this land along the banks of the Ma River was once again strongly ignited. Not only was it the rear providing human and material resources for the front line, the city was also a hot battlefield, directly burying many invaders. When talking about one of the glorious events that has left a brilliant page in the history of the Vietnamese nation, first of all, we must mention the Ham Rong victory. This was a victory of extremely special significance, when our army and people won in the first battle and a glorious victory against the massive attack from the "US air force". The “steel fortress” Ham Rong became the terror of the American invaders. American pilots later had to admit: Ham Rong was one of the fiercest air defense positions.

The golden page of history, shining with the feats of the army and people of Ham Rong - Nam Ngan, has closed with history, but that immortal heroic epic still echoes with the mountains and rivers. Rising from a poor, small town, and suffering heavy losses due to two wars, the once steadfast and heroic land has now taken on a new, beautiful and vibrant appearance. After 5 times of administrative boundary expansion, the city's population has increased to over 615,000 people, ranking 2nd out of 19 type I cities in terms of population size, and 9th out of 19 type I cities nationwide in terms of natural area with 228.22km2. The city's development is not only for itself, but also has a responsibility to the whole Thanh Hoa province. Therefore, in recent years, the city has focused on comprehensively developing the economic, cultural - social, national defense - security fields and achieved many very encouraging results. Many important economic indicators of the city such as budget revenue, capital mobilization for development investment, goods export, total retail sales of goods... have contributed greatly to the overall development of the whole province. The clearest evidence is that the total retail sales of goods and revenue from service industries in 2024 will reach 49,117 billion VND, ranking first in the province; the total production value of the city will reach 81,220 billion VND, ranking second in the province; the growth rate of production value will reach 10.25%, ranking fourth in the province. The economic structure will shift in the right direction, the investment and business environment will be improved, economic sectors will develop in a diverse manner, and businesses and entrepreneurs will develop rapidly in terms of quantity, scale and structure of operating industries.

Currently, shabby residential areas with poor infrastructure and suburban areas have become new synchronous and modern residential areas, creating an architectural highlight for the city. Located in a prime location, Vincom Plaza Thanh Hoa Urban - Commercial Area is one of the busiest and most classy commercial centers in Thanh Hoa. This historic merger marks an extremely important milestone, because after 220 years of formation and development, Thanh Hoa city has never had the position and strength it has today. With the stature of an urban area "leaning on the mountain, by the river, facing the sea", Thanh Hoa city develops strongly to the West to connect Thanh Hoa city with the North-South expressway and more strongly connect the development of the economic driving center of Thanh Hoa city - Sam Son city - the western region of the province; at the same time, develop to the Northeast to form an urban area "on both banks of the Ma river". From there, a concentrated, diffuse urban space is formed, connecting the three regions of the mountainous, plain and coastal areas of Thanh Hoa province.

The city on the banks of the Ma River is full of vitality. And deep inside it, there is a “soft power” of historical tradition, heroic revolution and rich cultural values, which is and will become a spiritual foundation, a strong endogenous resource, urging the city to move quickly and strongly into a new chapter, with faith and expectation of prosperous and rich-identity development.
