After a series of car tire failures on highways causing traffic jams and potential accidents, the Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) has issued a warning.
On the morning of November 20, speaking with VietNamNet reporter, Lieutenant Colonel Pham Duc Dong - Deputy Head of the Road and Railway Traffic Patrol and Control Guidance Department (Department 6, Traffic Police Department) said that in a short time, the unit has recorded many cases of cars with damaged tires on highways.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Pham Duc Dong, the situation of cars with flat tires on the highway is very diverse, from cars, trucks, tractor trailers..., spread across different time frames during the day.
"Almost every day, the traffic police force records cases of cars with flat tires. Particularly on the Mai Son - National Highway 45 highway on November 10 and November 19, there were 3 cars with flat tires at the same time," said Lieutenant Colonel Pham Duc Dong.
According to the Deputy Head of Department 6, some tractor-trailers had their tires suddenly blown out, forcing them to stop and park in the middle of the highway, causing traffic jams and posing a potential risk of accidents.
"Notably, on the Mai Son - National Highway 45 section, there are only 2 lanes, so damaged vehicles that have to be parked take up 1 lane, causing traffic insecurity," said Lieutenant Colonel Pham Duc Dong.
Lieutenant Colonel Dong added that in cases of car tires being damaged, the traffic police force will provide timely support, regardless of day or night.
"As soon as we receive information via hotline 19008099, we will send officers and soldiers to the scene. Traffic police will place markers, reflective cones... to direct traffic to ensure safety for rescue forces to tow damaged vehicles off the highway," said Lieutenant Colonel Dong.
Based on the above facts, Lieutenant Colonel Pham Duc Dong recommends that each driver and transport business unit needs to check the technical safety of the vehicle before participating in traffic, especially before entering the highway. At the same time, it is necessary to maintain the vehicle periodically, check the tires regularly to promptly repair and replace the tires if they are worn out.
"Drivers and transport businesses need to properly and fully carry out all inspection steps before departure to minimize vehicle damage and reduce the risk of accidents on the road," Lieutenant Colonel Pham Duc Dong recommended.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Dong, when encountering an accident on a highway or national highway, traffic participants need to take the following measures: When a vehicle has an accident (running out of gas, flat tire, broken vehicle...), the driver needs to pay attention, turn on the turn signal, try to slowly move the vehicle from the roadway to the right side of the roadway or the emergency lane (if any), turn on the warning signal. The driver gets out of the vehicle (wears a reflective vest at night) and immediately places 3 cones or a reflective triangle behind the vehicle to warn at a distance of 100m on the highway.
"Drivers must not walk on the highway without permission, they must stay outside the guardrail to ensure safety. Then call the hotline 19008099 for support," emphasized Lieutenant Colonel Pham Duc Dong.
When a car has an accident on the highway, absolutely do not gather in large numbers to argue.
"Cars should have reflective paper on the back; be equipped with at least 3 cones or 3 reflective triangles; and be equipped with reflective vests to wear in case of accidents on the road at night, in fog, or at night," the Deputy Head of the Road and Railway Traffic Control and Patrol Guidance Department recommended.
