Information about SIM management was announced by Mr. Nguyen Phong Nha, Deputy Director of the Department of Telecommunications (Ministry of Information and Communications) at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Information and Communications on the afternoon of April 8.
Mr. Nguyen Phong Nha, Deputy Director of the Department of Telecommunications
According to many users, recently their personal information is listed on many strange phone numbers and they don't know how to handle it.
Discussing this issue, Mr. Nguyen Phong Nha said that network operators have built a strict and clear process to help users find information. Mobile phone users can also request to remove their information from incorrect subscriptions. This helps ensure rights, avoiding the wrong blocking of the main subscriptions that users are using.
To deal with the problem of junk SIMs, junk messages, and junk calls, the Ministry of Information and Communications has developed a tool to help users check how many SIMs they own.
The Ministry of Information and Communications has directed the Department of Telecommunications to coordinate with network operators to change the text message syntax to check subscriber information via the number 1414.
Accordingly, instead of the TTTB lookup syntax sending to 1414, the new syntax requires subscribers to provide their citizen identification number (TTTB + CCCD) and send to 1414. This is to protect subscriber information for users.
According to statistics from the Telecommunications Department, network operators have received 6 million text messages to the 1414 hotline, along with documents to check subscriber information. Up to now, mobile users have gradually become familiar with the new lookup syntax.
During the period from March 1 to 31, the Telecommunications Department recorded about 1.62 million documents, corresponding to 7.9 million SIMs belonging to the subscriber group with 4 to 9 SIMs.
Mr. Nha informed: "Up to now, about 1,200 subscribers have reported to telecommunications businesses, questioning the strange SIM numbers they own. Since then, the network operators have removed the subscriber numbers from the customer feedback list, and carried out one-way and two-way blocking procedures for subscribers with incorrect names and documents. As a result, about 200 subscriber numbers have been locked, which shows that the network operators have actively participated in the process of standardizing subscriber information."
A representative of the Telecommunications Department said that the Ministry of Information and Communications has instructed that from April 15, network operators must take full responsibility if new SIMs that are not in compliance with regulations appear on the market.
In case of detecting violations, the Ministry of Information and Communications will organize inspections and strictly handle them (including reviewing and stopping new developments), at the same time, issue written reminders to business leaders and report to the Prime Minister for consideration of disciplinary action.
