Using VPN (Virtual Private Network) to subscribe to paid services like Youtube Premium at a discount price is no longer strange. VPN allows users to change their IP address so that the system recognizes that they are accessing from a different location.
It is known that the price of subscribing to the Youtube Premium package in each country is different and countries with low income will be able to buy it at a much cheaper price (in the US, users have to pay 14 USD/month to register for the package while in India, users only have to pay 1.54 USD). Therefore, many Vietnamese users find ways to use VPN to save costs for this service package.
However, recently, many users of the above service package have received cancellation notices without clear reasons.
According to a report on Reddit, the reason may be because Google is tightening the use of VPNs to buy cheap Premium packages. Users whose service is canceled will have to re-register with an address and payment card in the country they currently live in if they want to continue using the service.
A YouTube spokesperson said they will cancel memberships for accounts identified as having fake information to ensure they provide the most accurate packages and offers.
The move has sparked mixed reactions, with some expressing displeasure, especially in countries where YouTube Premium subscription fees are high.
Previously, except for users who registered for Premium accounts, all users had to watch ads while watching videos because YouTube had implemented many measures to prevent users from using ad blockers.
Finally, a measure that is considered optimal was applied. Accordingly, YouTube has made a move to skip the video until the end if the user has installed and enabled an ad blocker. Thus, users are forced to watch ads if they want to avoid paying for the service.
