Ahead of the Germany-Denmark match, meteorologist Dominik Jung told BILD: "From 29 to 30 June, there is a risk of severe thunderstorms from the southwest and west to central Germany. This could cause very heavy rain, up to 40 to 80 liters per square meter in a few hours. Large hailstones of about 3 centimeters in diameter, as well as storms with speeds of 100 to 140 kilometers per hour, plus tornadoes, are also possible."

Unfortunately, Mr. Dominik Jung's predictions came true. The match between Germany and Denmark at Signal Indunal Park was delayed for nearly 10 minutes after the 35th minute.

According to UEFA, weather problems were the cause. “The Signal Iduna Park stadium was hit by heavy rain and continuous thunder and lightning. The safety of the players must be given the highest priority and the match was therefore postponed,” UEFA wrote on its website.

ITV reporters at the stadium described: “Rain was pouring down the stairs. Lightning was constantly appearing and causing panic among the fans present. So when a large bolt of lightning struck just above the pitch, referee Michael Oliver stopped the game and asked everyone to leave the pitch. The supervisor was informed and agreed to this plan.”

Next, ITV channel also reported the atmosphere in the tunnel: “Players from both teams sat in the tunnel. Everyone was in a relaxed mood and waiting for the next developments. Some people quickly found towels to dry themselves. Some other players even asked to change their shirts. Meanwhile, fans sitting in the lower rows got wet and had to find shelter. Water poured down from the roof of the stadium. We could imagine it was like being at Old Trafford (England).”

In addition to the weather, European media reported that the match was postponed due to the deterioration of the Signal Indunal Park stadium. Accordingly, the Signal Indunal Park stadium is "50 years old" and has many areas with damaged roofs. Heavy rain caused these areas to leak like waterfalls. Not only was the roof leaking, the field surface could not drain the water fast enough, greatly affecting the match.
