The will to overcome difficulties of poor students

Quoc Kiet dreams of continuing to pursue his education for a bright future.

The ground-floor house in Le Binh ward, Can Tho city, is home to 3 grandmothers and grandchildren. Despite her old age and poor health, Mrs. De still works hard to take care of her 2 grandchildren's education... Mrs. De said: "Early in the morning, I go to the market and cook, and at noon I go to fold clothes at the laundry shop not far from home. Every day, I earn about 100,000 VND, which is enough to cover the living expenses in the house."

Kiet recalls: “When I was in 4th grade, my family was in such difficult circumstances that my parents decided to pack up and go to Ho Chi Minh City to work as factory workers. Dien and I stayed home and asked my grandmother to take care of us. Every month, my parents sent money back home so that she could take care of our education.” And then, tragedy struck. In 2022, his father passed away from liver cancer, leaving Kiet’s mother, Tran Thi Kim Thoa, to shoulder the family’s burden alone. At the end of March 2025, on her way to work, Thoa had a traffic accident and passed away... Quoc Kiet confided: “Thanks to my grandmother’s care, my siblings and I gradually overcame our grief. My grandmother was a great motivation for us to overcome adversity and move forward in life.”

To keep their studies uninterrupted, the two siblings work part-time to earn money to buy books and clothes. Quoc Dien is in 11th grade at Giai Xuan High School and does all kinds of part-time jobs. The siblings often encourage each other to study hard, because only this path can help them have a bright future...

In the recent high school graduation exam, Quoc Kiet did quite well, scoring over 25 points. His wish is to study tourism at Can Tho University. Although we know that the road ahead for Kiet and Dien is still long and bumpy, we believe that with their will and determination to overcome difficulties, they will soon reap sweet rewards...
