On August 12, the Ministry of Education and Training announced that it would seek opinions on revising the curriculum of a number of subjects to suit the two-tier local government model and changes in administrative boundaries.
Accordingly, the change of administrative boundaries, the implementation of two-level local government and the amended Constitution directly affect the curriculum of four subjects: History and Geography from grades 4 to 9; Geography grade 12; History grade 10 and Civic Education ( Economic and Legal Education grade 10). Therefore, it is necessary to revise the curriculum of these subjects.
The amendments and supplements are carried out in four directions: minimizing the need to revise textbooks when revising the program; revising scientifically inaccurate content; revising content affected by changes in administrative boundaries, implementing two-level local government and changes to the Constitution; for the program of any grade that must be revised, leading to revision of textbooks for that grade, revising all limitations of the program in that grade.
The proposed revision is as follows:
Subject: Economic and Legal Education (Grade 10): Revised on the topics: Political system of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
History (grade 10): Revise content about the State and law of Vietnam in history, in the selected study topic.
Geography (grade 12), History and Geography (grades 4, 5, 8, 9): Revise content on socio-economic regions such as regional boundaries; names and number of provinces and cities; area and population of regions; resources, economic development situation and sector distribution in socio-economic regions; administrative maps; population maps; maps of sectors and economic regions in Vietnam.
History, History and Geography (grades 7, 9): Revise the historical periodization of feudal China, divide the stages in the renovation process in Vietnam from 1986 to present.
2025-2026 school year still uses old textbooks
The Ministry of Education and Training also said that in the 2025-2026 school year, general education institutions nationwide will use the selected textbooks for teaching.
The Ministry will organize training and instruct teachers on the revised curriculum; direct the review and revision of textbooks for a number of classes in the above subjects to conform to the revised curriculum and will implement revised textbooks from the 2026-2027 school year.
