Macadamia is a tree native to Australia, it is a large tree with high economic efficiency. In Vietnam, macadamia trees have been planted in many places and brought high economic efficiency, likened to "billion dollar trees". In Khao Mang commune (Mu Cang Chai district, Yen Bai province), in recent years, this tree has been experimentally planted by people.
After researching and learning, in 2019, Mr. Vang A Tru's family in Na De Thang village (Khao Mang commune) planted 76 macadamia trees interspersed with corn. With proper care techniques and this type of tree proved to be suitable for the soil and climate conditions, after more than 4 years of planting, Mr. Tru's macadamia trees all grew well, of which more than 10 trees began to bear fruit, some of which bore a lot of fruit.
According to the assessment of many macadamia growers, with each hectare, growers can earn a stable income of 200 - 400 million VND, this will be an opportunity for Mr. Tru's family to continue expanding the area. "The weather is also suitable for macadamia trees, but in terms of experience in tree care, I also hope that the local government will provide technical support so that we can ensure tree care" - Mr. Vang A Tru wishes.

As for Mr. Vang A Su’s family in Khao Mang village (Khao Mang commune), in recent years, his family’s economy has mainly relied on farming and forestry. However, this source of income, although stable, is low.
With the desire to increase income, in 2019, after being introduced by the Vietnam Macadamia Association about the potential, prospects and economic efficiency of macadamia trees in the Northwest region, Mr. Su's family also decided to invest in buying 40 macadamia trees to plant. After nearly 5 years, these trees grew well and reached a height of over 3 meters.
Mr. Vang A Su shared: "Growing macadamia in this area is very suitable, it will definitely ensure good growth. I have been growing it for 5 years, the tree is currently flowering and will soon bear fruit."
Some experts say that due to its suitability to the climate and soil conditions, macadamia trees in Mu Cang Chai grow well, promising that this is a tree that will bring stable and long-term income, contributing to hunger eradication and poverty reduction for farmers here.

Replicating and focusing on macadamia tree care techniques
As a highland commune with a difficult economy, it is very necessary to introduce new tree varieties into cultivation to increase people's income according to the policy of shifting crop structure. Currently, Khao Mang commune has only 1 hectare of macadamia trees planted by people. This macadamia area grows and develops well, many trees have borne fruit and gradually show prospects for economic efficiency.
Besides macadamia trees, Khao Mang commune has also introduced Trung Khanh chestnut trees and coffee trees for experimental planting. Through evaluation, these trees are very suitable for the soil and climate conditions here and also promise that these are trees that will help local people to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty sustainably.
Mr. Sung A Su - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Khao Mang Commune Party Committee said that the macadamia tree grows and develops very well, the tree is suitable for the climate and soil of the commune. However, due to spontaneous development, people do not have experience in caring for it, leading to some trees being affected by pests and diseases, so they have not developed as expected.

"Compared to other trees, macadamia is still a well-rated tree. In the coming time, the Party Committee and local authorities will continue to promote and mobilize people to plant and expand" - said the Standing Deputy Secretary of the Khao Mang Commune Party Committee.
The fact that macadamia trees have grown and developed well in Khao Mang commune after planting shows that this is a tree with great potential for economic development as well as greening barren land. However, in order for macadamia trees to truly become a spearhead tree in economic development in the following years, it is necessary to mobilize people to expand the area as well as strengthen the guidance on care techniques.
However, in addition to expanding the macadamia growing area, Khao Mang commune leaders must also consider supporting people in preliminary processing to get the highest value from macadamia trees.
