DVFA's statement on June 11 stated that three noodle products of Samyang Foods were assessed to have dangerous levels of capsaicin.

Capsaicin is the active ingredient in chili peppers. Accordingly, three Samyang instant noodle products, Buldak 3x Spicy & Hot Chicken, 2x Spicy & Hot Chicken and Hot Chicken Stew, have been withdrawn from the market in Denmark.

According to DVFA, the spiciness in one packet of instant noodles mentioned above was "so high that it posed a risk of causing acute poisoning to consumers".

The agency issued a special warning for children, urging parents to contact a hotline if their children experience "acute symptoms" after eating the noodles.

Samyang's products are popular overseas, helping the company's operating profit hit a record high of more than $110 million in 2023.

Samyang Foods' stock price has surged 70% in recent months, after its buldak carbonara ramen went viral on TikTok, making the product so popular in the US that there have been reports of shortages.

This is the first time Samyang products have been recalled for being too spicy. "These products are currently exported around the world, but this is the first time they have been recalled for this reason," a company spokesperson said.

However, the company said the Danish decision would help it better understand regulations in export markets.
