Recently, the 19-year-old girl (Hanoi) has been sleeping less, losing weight, always having the illusion that she is super talented, coming up with many unrealistic business ideas, even planning to open a cross-border trading company. Previously, this girl often acted strangely, such as being overly cheerful, having a lot of energy, working tirelessly, laughing and talking to many people. She likes to help people in difficult circumstances, something she has never done before.
Realizing that their daughter was unstable, the family took her to the hospital for examination. The doctor diagnosed her with bipolar disorder. The patient is currently in a manic phase and has psychotic symptoms, and was hospitalized for treatment.
According to Dr. Nguyen Thi Ai Van, Institute of Mental Health, Bach Mai Hospital, the patient was admitted for 15 days of inpatient treatment, combining medication and psychotherapy. Currently, the symptoms have subsided, less excitement, more appropriate emotions, no more paranoia, can eat and sleep, and cooperate with treatment.
People with bipolar disorder may have genetic predisposition or other factors such as stress in life, circadian rhythm disorders also affect and increase the risk of manic disorder.

- Increased favorite activities: Patients often have excessive activities for a purpose such as career, politics, religion. They can shop a lot, far beyond their ability to pay, causing them to spend a lot of money. Patients can participate in business (although they have no experience) causing huge financial losses to themselves, their families and their agencies. They always bother others such as bothering neighbors, acquaintances.
- Arrogance: The patient overestimates himself beyond normal levels. If the condition is mild, the patient reduces self-criticism. If it is more severe, the patient overestimates himself clearly and can reach the level of paranoia.
For people with this disorder, if not examined, diagnosed and treated promptly, it will affect themselves such as work, health and increase the economic burden for the family.
