From 1945 to present, Tam Vinh commune has undergone many mergers, separations, and changes in administrative boundaries, with many names: Thanh Minh commune, Ky Thinh commune, Ky Quy commune, merged into Tam Dan commune. On April 12, 1985, Tam Vinh commune was established on the basis of separation of Tam Dan commune. On December 21, 2009, Tam Vinh commune's administrative boundaries were adjusted to establish Phu Thinh town according to Resolution No. 62 of the Government.

Throughout history, Tam Vinh has been a land rich in revolutionary and cultural traditions. Through the resistance wars, the Party Committee, army and people of Tam Vinh have always been resilient, brave, upholding revolutionary heroism in combat and combat service. In recognition of the great contributions of the army and people of the commune, the Party and State awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to Tam Vinh commune in 2003.

In 2015, Tam Vinh was recognized by the province as meeting the standards of a new rural commune (NTM). Currently, Tam Vinh is assessed to have met the standards of a new rural commune according to the criteria for the period 2021 - 2025, with 2 villages achieving the model NTM village status. The average income per capita at the end of 2023 reached 56.43 million VND/person/year, more than double the income in 2015.

Along with economic development, the commune has also focused on investing and taking good care of many contents in the field of culture and society. The work of caring for policy beneficiaries, people with meritorious services and social security has been implemented well, the poverty rate has decreased to 2.49%. The quality of education at all levels has been improved. Primary health care for the people has been given attention, with universal health insurance reaching 99.7%...

With the above achievements, in 2023, the Provincial People's Committee awarded the title of Excellent Labor Collective to the commune's cadres and civil servants and awarded the Emulation Flag for outstanding achievements in work to the people and cadres of Tam Vinh commune. In the period of 2023 - 2025, Tam Vinh commune and Phu Thinh town will merge to form a new administrative unit.
