Prosecution of 'foster mother' who threw boiling water on 12-year-old girl in Kien Giang

Ha Tien City Police ( Kien Giang ) said they have prosecuted and detained Nguyen Thi Phuong (52 years old, residing in Cua Duong Commune, Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang Province) to investigate the crime of torturing others. Phuong is the one who used boiling water on the girl PDGH (12 years old, Phuong's adopted daughter).

Currently, Ha Tien City Police are taking PDGH to have his disability assessed to review the extent of his injuries to strengthen the case file.

Previously, on November 27, Ha Tien City Police urgently arrested Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong after receiving information that baby H. was splashed with boiling water.

Initial information, Ms. Phuong has been staying in Binh San ward, Ha Tien city since the beginning of November to sell lottery tickets with her two children, PDGH (12 years old) and NGB (7 years old).

Ms. Phuong lives as husband and wife with Mr. Tuan (52 years old, living in Phu Quoc City). H. and B. are Mr. Tuan's grandchildren. Ms. Phuong and Mr. Tuan broke up, so Ms. Phuong took the two children to Ha Tien City to live and sell lottery tickets. Every month, Mr. Tuan still sends money to support the two children. The children call Ms. Phuong "foster mother".

When there was information that Ms. Phuong threw boiling water on baby H., Binh San Ward Police investigated and took the two babies to Kien Giang Province Social Protection Center for care.

At the police station, Ms. Phuong confessed that she was beaten because H. often lost lottery tickets while selling them. On November 21, she poured boiling water on H.’s shoulder and right arm, causing severe burns.

Currently, H. and B. are staying at the Kien Giang Province Social Protection Center. Their spirits have improved and they are no longer panicked and scared like they were at first.
