Prosecution of former Chief of Office of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Bao Trung

On December 6, the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency issued a decision to prosecute and temporarily detain Nguyen Bao Trung (Head of the An Giang Provincial Economic Zone Management Board, former Chief of Office of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee) for the crime of "Taking advantage of position and power while performing official duties".

According to the investigation agency, Nguyen Bao Trung was prosecuted for taking advantage of his position and power to intervene and direct Trung Hau - Tong 68 Investment Joint Stock Company to be granted exploration and exploitation licenses and adjust mining licenses in violation of the law at sand mines in My Hiep commune and Binh Phuoc Xuan commune, Cho Moi district, An Giang province, illegally profiting an especially large amount of money, causing damage to state assets.

The investigation agency also searched Mr. Trung's residence at 38 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Binh Long 1 Hamlet, My Binh Ward, Long Xuyen City, An Giang and his workplace at 2, Street 20, My Hoa Ward, Long Xuyen City, An Giang Province.

Previously, in August 2023, the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency initiated a criminal case and in January 2024, decided to supplement the decision to prosecute the crime of "Abusing position and power while performing official duties", occurring at Trung Hau Investment Joint Stock Company - Tong 68, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of An Giang province and related units.
