The Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway project, which started construction this morning, is one of a series of key traffic projects that Ho Chi Minh City started and inaugurated to celebrate the 80th anniversary of National Day.
The Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (project investor - Traffic Board) - said that the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway (phase 1) will be built under the public-private partnership (PPP) method, BOT contract, and approved for investment by the Prime Minister from August 2024.
The route is 51km long, of which 24.7km passes through Ho Chi Minh City and 26.3km passes through Tay Ninh province. The starting point connects to Ring Road 3 (old Cu Chi district) and the end point connects to National Highway 22, about 7km from Moc Bai border gate.
The project was built to reduce the load on overloaded National Highway 22 and synchronously connect with Ring Roads 3 and 4, develop the Moc Bai - Ho Chi Minh City - Cai Mep - Thi Vai urban industrial chain, and the Trans-Asia economic corridor.
This is also an important project to promote cooperation and development between the Southeast region with the Mekong Delta, the Central Highlands and the South Central Coast, contributing to ensuring national security and defense and enhancing national competitiveness.
According to the Traffic Department, this route is built according to Vietnam's highway standards, with a design speed of 120km/h, and phase 1 will have 4 lanes. Auxiliary works such as bridges, residential roads, overpasses, toll collection systems and smart traffic will be invested synchronously.
The total investment capital of the project is over VND 19,600 billion. Of which, State capital accounts for about 49.3% (including central capital of over VND 2,800 billion and Ho Chi Minh City budget capital of over VND 6,800 billion). The remaining part is arranged by PPP investors, of which equity capital accounts for 15%.
Along with the mine clearance and infrastructure relocation package, the Traffic Department is coordinating with consultants to complete the design, estimate, and select contractors to start the construction package in October 2025, the related project in March 2026, and strive to open the entire route to traffic in December 2027.
"The Traffic Department hopes to continue receiving support from Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh and related units, and would like to thank more than 3,800 households who have given up their land for the project and pledge to speed up the progress and complete the project on schedule," said Mr. Luong Minh Phuc - Director of the Traffic Department.
The Traffic Department said it has also started the project to build the Nga Tu Dinh intersection (old District 12). This is a level III traffic project, located along National Highway 1.
The project includes a 434m long reinforced concrete bridge (240m is the bridge), 17.5m wide for 4 lanes, with 600m long service roads on both sides, improved drainage, lighting and trees. The total investment is nearly 398 billion VND.
