The UK, which holds the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council this month, is seeking global leadership in AI regulation. Foreign Secretary James Cleverly will chair the discussion on Tuesday (July 17).

In June, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres backed a proposal by several AI CEOs to create an international AI watchdog like the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Secretary-General Guterres also said he supports the appointment of a scientific advisory board comprising AI experts and leading scientists from UN agencies to study the risks posed by this technology globally.

Recently, a group of six humanoid robots powered by artificial intelligence (AI) declared at a United Nations conference that they could run the world better than humans in the future.
