Tottenham had Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie sent off and two goals disallowed by VAR in the most notable clash of the Premier League this round. Romero was sent off for a foul on Enzo Fernandez and then Udogie, who was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Raheem Sterling. Meanwhile, Son Heung-min and Eric Dier had two goals disallowed by VAR.

Nicolas Jackson scored a second-half hat-trick to help the Blues win the London derby, with Dejan Kulusevski and Cole Palmer scoring for Tottenham and Chelsea respectively.

Coach Postecoglou was extremely angry about the waiting time for decisions related to VAR: "I feel like I'm waiting for things to happen thanks to the intervention of VAR. There will be a legal study on every decision out there. That's what happened in the game and I don't like it."

Tottenham's first defeat since Postecoglou took charge cost them the chance to reclaim top spot in the Premier League. And the manager has said he wants referees to have the final say on key decisions, rather than waiting for VAR. "You have to accept the referee's decision, that's how I grew up," said the Australian. "The constant erosion of refereeing power will continue. They won't have any power. We'll be at the mercy of someone with a TV screen."

Meanwhile, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino had no such complaints about VAR, enjoying a victory over his former club in his first return since being sacked in 2019. The victory moved the Blues up to 10th, 12 points behind leaders Man City.
