Among the streets that are expected to have their sidewalks and medians cut are Giang Vo, Lang Ha, Le Van Luong, and To Huu. These are streets on the BRT bus route, with many shortcomings in the current state of sidewalks and medians.
During morning rush hour and afternoon rush hour, road users are all too familiar with the sight of vehicles lining up side by side, taking up the entire BRT bus lane. |
The BRT struggled to move in its dedicated lane. Both the front and rear of the bus were surrounded by vehicles. |
The sidewalk on To Huu street was used to sell fruit. |
At a BRT stop on Le Van Luong Street, the lane divider barrier was disabled. Many motorcyclists swerved into the BRT lane to escape traffic jams or to "conveniently" turn left. |
Meanwhile, the sidewalk area along Le Van Luong street is very spacious and is used as a parking area for cars and motorbikes. |
Cars line up on the sidewalk like a public parking lot, despite the no parking signs next to it. The wide sidewalk is also an "escape route" for motorbike drivers when the road is congested. |
Sidewalks in this area are also "used" to collect garbage, causing loss of urban beauty. |
A similar situation occurred on Giang Vo Street. In front of the D2 Giang Vo building, a long line of cars was parked on the sidewalk. Whenever one car left, another immediately took its place. |
Even when the road is clear, many people still ride motorbikes in the BRT lane. One passenger got off the bus and walked straight into the road. |
The Hanoi Department of Transport has just requested the City People's Committee and the Department of Planning and Investment to appraise and submit to competent authorities for approval the investment policy for infrastructure renovation projects and urgent traffic organization at some intersections and routes to reduce congestion.
The project has a total estimated investment of nearly 225 billion VND, sourced from the budget, of which construction costs are more than 188 billion VND; project implementation period is from 2024 - 2027.
The Department of Transport plans to trim sidewalks and median strips at eligible locations on Giang Vo, Lang Ha, Le Van Luong, To Huu, Hoang Dao Thuy, Hoang Minh Giam, and Khuat Duy Tien streets. These are all roads with extremely high traffic density and frequent congestion during rush hour.
In particular, Giang Vo, Lang Ha, Le Van Luong, and To Huu streets are on the BRT bus route, a radial traffic axis, and traffic congestion often occurs.
