A series of candidates got 9, 10 points in English but 2-3 points in math and literature

In the 2025 high school graduation exam, 141 candidates scored 10 points in English. There were more than 4,700 students with a score of 9 or higher, most of whom were concentrated in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Notably, among these more than 4,700 candidates, many scored below average in math and literature, and some even scored only 2-3 points in both required subjects.

A typical example of this is a candidate in Hung Yen . The candidate scored 9 points in English but only 2.6 points in math and 2.75 points in literature.

In Ho Chi Minh City, 1 candidate got 9 points in English, 2.85 points in math, and 3.5 points in literature.

Another candidate got a perfect score of 10 in English but only got 3 points in math and 4.25 points in literature.

There are about 10 candidates in Ho Chi Minh City who have excellent English scores but below average math and literature scores.

However, the number of candidates with 9-10 English and one of the two math-literature subjects below average is up to 300-400 cases.

Notably, the only candidate who got 10 points in English from Dien Bien had a below average math score and a literature score of 6.75, lower than the national average literature score.

The English test for the 2025 high school graduation exam is assessed by experts as very difficult. Nationwide, more than 350,000 candidates chose to take the English test under the new general education program, accounting for about 1/3 of the total number of candidates taking the graduation exam. This means that the quality of candidates taking the English test this year is higher than in 2024.

However, the actual score distribution shows that the majority of candidates scored between 4.93 and 6.83. Only about 15.1% of candidates scored 7 or higher.

The 4 provinces and cities with an average English score below 5 are Ca Mau, Vinh Long, Tay Ninh and An Giang.

All four provinces have a very low number of candidates taking the English exam, less than 10,000.

According to the old provinces and cities before the merger, the whole country had 14/63 localities with an average English score below 5, including: Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Ha Giang, Binh Thuan, An Giang, Binh Dinh, Dak Nong, Long An, Ninh Thuan, Kien Giang, Ca Mau, Tra Vinh, Hau Giang and Soc Trang.
