Hai Phong: Innovation in teaching and learning based on technology application

Việt NamViệt Nam24/04/2024

In recent years, the application of information technology (IT) in management, operation and teaching has been actively implemented by the entire education sector, gradually meeting the requirements of educational innovation. In particular, the English e-lesson design contest has created a rich, diverse source of e-learning materials, rich in creative ideas, and highly applicable to IT.

Currently, the Hai Phong Education sector has synchronously implemented digital transformation tasks and goals throughout the sector. In addition to promoting digitalization of management information, the entire sector is interested in effectively implementing digital transformation in teaching, learning, testing and evaluation.

The digitalization of learning materials (electronic textbooks, electronic lectures, e-learning lecture warehouses, multiple choice question banks), digital libraries, virtual laboratories, and the deployment of online training systems... are being actively implemented by schools. Many units have converted teaching methods, classroom management techniques, and interactions with learners to digital spaces, exploiting information technology to successfully organize teaching.

According to Mr. Tran Tien Chinh, Chief of Office of the City Department of Education and Training, for many years the Education sector has regularly organized city-level e-lesson design competitions. The quantity and quality of entries are increasing. The lectures are uploaded to the industry-wide digital learning resource repository for teachers and students to refer to.

The contest to design electronic English lessons was organized by Hanoi Education Investment and Development Joint Stock Company (Vietnam Education Publishing House) in collaboration with the University of Foreign Languages (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) to promote the movement of applying information technology, innovating teaching methods, and effectively implementing the teaching and learning of English textbooks according to the new program.

This is also a useful playground, honoring intelligence, discovering advanced examples, new models, and new factors in English teaching.

Teacher Pham Anh Phong, Principal of Maritime High School, shared: The English e-lesson design contest creates a source of quality materials for teaching, research and learning of teachers and students of schools nationwide. Above all, the contest meets the need to innovate English teaching activities according to the 2018 General Education Program towards promoting the qualities and abilities of learners.

Sharing the same view, Ms. Vu Thi Thuy Trang, Head of English Department, Maritime High School, said that innovating the way of designing lectures and innovating teaching methods is an inevitable trend. She and her colleagues at the school always strive to have quality lectures.

Electronic lectures (E-learning) are a form of teaching using visual methods through lesson plans, lectures prepared by teachers using computer software are presented using modern support tools. In addition to guiding students to actively think and perceive new educational methods with the application of electronic lesson plans, teachers must be active and bold in using information technology, designing electronic lesson plans, and presentation boards to make lessons more vivid with knowledge and intuitive illustrations.

This will make the teaching staff more dynamic and creative in their teaching work to meet the learning needs of students in the new situation, especially in English.

Therefore, this English Lesson Design Competition is truly an opportunity for English teachers to learn, approach, practice and exchange, share experiences with the team of English teachers nationwide. Thanks to the convenience and flexibility of E-learning, this form will continue to be the top priority in choosing effective learning in the digital age.

According to teacher Luu Thi Thu Hien, English teacher at An Duong Town Primary School (An Duong District), in the 2018 General Education Program, English is no longer an elective subject but a compulsory subject, considered a tool subject, aiming to develop communication skills for students.

Therefore, we must change our thinking and teaching habits, instead of focusing on knowledge and grammar as before, we must develop communication skills and language development for students. To do so, teachers need to strongly innovate teaching methods. The subject electronic lecture system will be a valuable resource, an intellectual product of the teaching staff. A rich library of learning materials for teachers and students to learn a lot of useful knowledge, good methods, creative and new ways of doing things.

Many English teachers evaluate that the contest is meaningful, appropriate and enhances creativity in English teaching. However, teachers have some difficulties when participating in the contest such as: computers need to have high configuration to update supporting software as well as need more training in information technology to meet the requirements of the contest.

According to Tran Thi Tuyet, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Kien An District, as soon as she received information about the English Lesson Design Competition, the Department of Education and Training of Kien An District deployed it to schools and encouraged subject teachers to participate. This is an opportunity for teachers to show their talents and assert themselves, and also contribute to building a rich subject learning material repository, enriching teaching materials.
